Today I visited one of the best small towns in Italy. This city is located in the mountains. It developed and developed from the hill of Monte Ricco, on which the fortress of La Rocca is located. This city is rightly called the city of a hundred horizons. This is Azolo, which has a thousand-year history and preserves all traditions and is proud of them.

Сьогодні я відвідала одне з найкращих маленьких міст Італії. Це місто знаходиться в горах. Воно розвивалося та розбудовувалося від пагорба Монте Рікко, на якому знаходиться фортеця Ла Рокка. Це місто поправу названо містом ста горизонтів. Це Азоло, що має тисячолітню історію і зберігає всі традиції та пишається ними.
My journey was not easy. After all, the mountain of Monte Rico has a height of 315 meters above sea level. So I had to climb high up the road that wound around the hill like a snake. But I often stopped to take pictures. Along the road in the hills I saw how the first spring flowers bloomed. These are delicate primroses, fragrant violets and blue snowdrop stars. Suddenly, I saw a wall overgrown with jasmine, which bloomed with white flowers and their aroma spread for several meters.

Але я часто зупинялася щоб зробити фотографії. Вздовж дороги на пагорбах я бачила як розцвіли перші весняні квіти. Це ніжні примули, пахучі фіалки та сині зірочки пролісків. Раптом я побачила стіну яка заросла жасмином, який квітнув білими квітами і аромат їх розноситься на кілька метрів.
Along the walls overgrown with moss and vegetation, I enter the city through one of the entrance gates. Near an old house, I see a fountain from which water flows continuously. Everyone who wants to collect drinking, cold water in it. This is the famous Zen fountain. This fountain was built way back in 1571 by the wealthy Zen family in agreement with the city authorities. I also got drunk by filling my bottle with crystal clear water. In Italy you will not die of thirst, there are fountains with drinking water everywhere.

Всі охочі набирають в ньому питну, холодну воду. Це знаменитий Дзен - фонтан. Цей фонтан був побудований в далекому 1571 році багатою родиною Дзен по домовленості з міськими властями. Я також напилася на наповнила чистою кришталевою водою свою пляшечку. В Італії ти не помреш від спраги, всюди є фонтани з питною водою.
Azolo attracted celebrities with its beauty and fresh mountain air. Many artists, writers, poets visited this small, like a toy city. Among them are the English poet Robert Browning, the divine theater actress Eleonora Duze, the composer Gian Francesco Malipiero. Eugene Benson, Henry James and Carlo Scarpa, Marius Pictor, Filippo de Pisis, Igor Stravinsky, Ernest Hemingway often lived and visited the city. Opposite the Zen fountain is Freya's villa, where the famous traveler Freya Stark lived. This woman was original, inquisitive, had bold views on life and was very unconventional for that time. Unfortunately, I was only able to go into the courtyard of the villa and examine the facade and the flower garden in front of the house. I could not see the famous garden and the archaeological excavations of the ancient theater.
Азоло своєю красою та свіжим гірським повітрям манило до себе знаменитостей. В цьому маленькому, немов іграшковому місті побувало багато художників, літераторів, поетів. Серед них англійський поет Роберт Браунінг , Божественна театральна актриса Елеонора Дузе , композитор Джан Франческо Маліп'єро В місті часто жили та гостювали Юджин Бенсон, Генрі Джеймс і Карло Скарпа, Маріус Піктор, Філіппо де Пісіс, Ігор Стравінський, Ернест Хемінгуей. Навпроти Дзен - фонтану знаходиться вілла Фрея, в якій проживала відома мандрівниця Фрея Старк. Ця жінка була оригінальною, допитливою, мала сміливі погляди на життя і дуже нетрадиційною як на той час. На жаль я змогла тільки зайти на подвір'я вілли і оглянути фасад та квітник перед будинком. Знаменитий сад і археологічні розкопки древнього театру я побачити не змогла.
I boldly walked up to reach the fortress of La Rocca. On the way I met no less cute houses. Opposite this small church, I sat down on a bench to rest and eat my rolls with ham to replenish my strength. I was already at a considerable height and could inspect everything that would be below. It was interesting to watch the road, which seemed like a thin ribbon, winding up the hill.
Я сміливо йшла вверх щоб дістатися фортеці Ла Рокка. По дорозі мені зустрічалися не менш симпатичні будинки. Навпроти цієї маленької церкви я сіла на лавці перепочити і з'їсти свої булки з шинкою щоб поповнити сили. Я була вже на значній висоті і могла оглядати все, що будо внизу. Цікаво було спостерігати за дорогою, яка здавалася тонкою стрічкою., що вилася вверх до пагорба.
I'm walking to myself, humming Vyacheslav Vakarchuk's song "Almost Spring" and I see a goat running towards me. It's so pretty, black and brown. It's meowing, asking for something to eat. She must be tired of grazing. Another goat was running around. They have everything set up here very good There are feeders and water.
Йду собі, наспівуючи пісню В'ячеслава Вакарчука ,,Майже весна" і бачу як до мене біжить коза. Така гарненька, чорно - коричнева. Мекає, просить чогось поїсти. Напевно пастися їй набридло. Поряд бігала інша коза. В них тут облаштовано все дуже добре. Є годівниці та вода.
After examining the fortress from the outside and inside, I saw the strength and power of La Rocca. Even today, almost a thousand years later, this fortress impresses with its impregnable grandeur. I wrote about her in the previous article.
Оглянувши фортецю знадвору та всередині я побачила силу і міць Ла Рокка. Навіть сьогодні, через майже тисячу років ця фортеця вражає своєю неприступною величчю. Про неї я писала в минулій статті.
Now my road leads down to the historic center of the city. I go down the other way, or rather the stone-paved stairs. The road goes down along with the high city wall. Through the old gate I enter the center.
On the way I met a very nice hotel Albergo al sole. You look at what a beautiful statue is placed in the yard. Looking at the statue of a young woman, I realized that it was a fountain. It would be interesting to see how water flows down a woman's body...
And next to it is a house from a fairy tale. The owners have already decorated their home for Easter. What is missing here! A very interesting figurine of a Gnome made from old ceramic flower pots.
You can look at all the decorations and take a note, if you wish, to make similar decorations for yourself.
Тепер моя дорога веде вниз до історичного центру міста. Я спускаюся іншою дорогою, вірніше сходами, що вимощені каменем. Дорога йде вниз разом з міським високим муром. Через старі ворота я заходжу до центру.
По дорозі мені зустрівся дуже гарний готель Albergo аl sole. Ви подивіться яка гарна статуя розміщена на подвір'ї. Дивлячись на статую молодої жінки, я зрозуміла, що це фонтан. Цікаво б було побачити як вода стікає по тілу жінки...
А поряд будиночок з казки. Господарі вже прикрасили своє житло до Паски. Що тут тільки нема! Дуже цікаво зроблена фігурка Гнома з старих керамічних горшків для квітів.
Можете оглянути всі оздоби і взяти собі на замітку, якщо бажаєте, зробити собі подібні прикраси.
In the center I saw many bars and restaurants with outdoor summer areas. I wanted to sit for a while and look at the center of Azolo. I went to the Epoca bar and ordered myself a syringe. This is a cocktail based on prosecco with the addition of aperol and sparkling water. Ice cubes and a slice of orange refresh nicely during the summer heat.
Do you know what first caught my eye when I entered the bar? These are a lot of banknotes that were placed above the bar counter. I found our Ukrainian 5 hryvnias among banknotes from all over the world left by visitors. Someone from Mykolaiv left them. It's a pity that I didn't have our paper money, but only 50 metal pennies that I found last year on the Lido...
At the table, drinking through the tube of the syringe, I see everything around me. Above, on the foothills, the Villa Scotti - Pazini rises. This villa is not accessible to visitors. It can be admired only from the outside.
В центрі я побачила багато барів та ресторанів з відкритими літніми майданчиками. Мені захотілося трохи посидіти і подивитись на центр Азоло. Я зайшла в бар Epoca і замовила собі шпріц. Це коктейль на основі просекко з додаванням аперолю, газованої води. Кубики льоду і кусок апельсина гарно освіжають під час літньої спеки.
Знаєте, що перше кинулось мені в очі коли я зайшла до приміщення бару? Це безліч банкнот, які були розміщені над барною стійкою. Я серед банкнот зі всього світу, які залишали відвідувачі, знайшла наші українські 5 гривень. Їх залишив хтось з Миколаїва. Шкода, що в мене не було наших паперових грошей, а лише 50 металевих копійок, які я знайшла минулого року на Лідо...
За столом, попиваючи через трубочку шпріц, я бачу все довкола мене. Вгорі на передгір'ї возвеличується вілла Скотті - Пазіні. Ця вілла недоступна для відвідувачів. Нею можна полюбуватися тільки зовні.
In the very center I saw the beautiful Maggiore fountain. This fountain is called the great fountain or Azolo's navel. The fountain has been supplying water to the entire city for almost 2,000 years, since the time of the Roman Empire, with the help of an ancient underground aqueduct. The fountain is the symbol of Azolo. A winged lion sits on the remains of the Roman column, which symbolized the reign of Serenissima. From four sides, clean fresh water pours from the masks. This fountain was rebuilt in 1575 by Giovanni Pisani.
В самому центрі я побачила прекрасний фонтан Maggiore. Цей фонтан називають великим фонтаном або пупом Азоло. Фонтан майже 2 тисячі років, ще з часів Римської імперії за допомогою древнього підземного акведука , живить водою все місто. Фонтан є символом Азоло. На залишку Римської колони сидить крилатий лев, що символізувало панування Серенісіми. З чотирьох сторін, з масок ллється чиста прісна вода. Цей фонтан був відбудований у 1575 році подеста Джованні Пізані.
On the square you can see the main temple of Azolo. This is the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Holy Mary. The cathedral was built in the 16th century on the site of the ruins of a medieval temple. Inside the cathedral is a painting by Lorenzo Lotto depicting the Dormition of the Virgin. It is noticeable that in the picture Mary is depicted not as a young virgin, but as an older woman. It was a discovery for me, because it was the first time I saw such a Mother of God in summer.
На площі можна побачити головний храм Азоло. Це катедральний собор Успіння Святої Марії. Собор побудований в 16 столітті на місці розвалини середньовічного храму. Всередині собору зберігається картина Лоренцо Лотто, що зображує успіння Богородиці. Помітно, що на картині Марія зображена не юною дівою, а старшою жінкою. Для мене це було відкриттям, адже таку Богородицю в літах, я бачила вперше.

Piazza Maggiore is also home to the Azolo Public Museum. It occupies the Palazzo del Vescovado and the Loggia della Ragione. The loggia was built during the 15th century and to this day preserves the magnificent frescoes of the 16th century. I did not visit the museum itself due to lack of time. Upon entering, my attention was drawn to the sculptural composition "Kiss".
На площі Маджоре також знаходиться громадський музей Азоло. Він займає Palazzo del Vescovado та Loggia della Ragione. Лоджія була побудована протягом 15 століття та до сьогоднішніх днів зберігає чудові фрески 16 століття. В самому музеї я не побувала через брак часу. При вході мою увагу привернула скульптурна композиція "Поцілунок".
The castle called Kateryna Cornaro Castle should not be overlooked. The castle was first mentioned in a document of 969. It was one ensemble of the city together with the fortress of La Rocca. In 1489, the castle became the home of Catherine Cornaro, Queen of Cyprus, Jerusalem and Armenia, Princess Azolo. After the death of Kateryna Cornaro, the castle underwent a number of reconstructions and reconstructions. The castle was used as a prison. And during Napoleon's time, the castle housed a garrison and a stable. There were also prisons in the towers. After the fall of Napoleon, a theater was established in the castle, where local actors staged their plays.

The city is beautiful with its narrow streets, its restaurants and bars, its houses with beautiful statues and flowers in every window, its statues that are unique. Even shop windows have their own charm. You walk down Azolo Street and there is no corner where he does not touch your heart. Azolo is a small town that can be visited in half a day, but which you will never forget.
Місто красиве своїми вузькими вуличками своїми ресторанами та барами, будинками з красивими статуями та квітами в кожному вікні, своїми статуями, які є неповторними. Навіть вітрини мають свій шарм. Йдеш вулицею Азоло і немає жодного куточка щоб він не торкнувся твого серця. Азоло маленьке місто, яке можна обійти за половину дня, але про яке не забудеш ніколи.

I see Easters decorations are I order. Thank you so much for sharing this walk, I loved knowing this city in Italy, everything is so beautiful and full of history.
