For a couple of years now, we have been going on a short trip to the same place around the same time, sometime in the second half of February. Why?
You can read from the title that we are going to look for snowdrops, which are the heralds of spring in our country, as well as in other parts of Europe.
If we find them, and if there are many of them, we know that winter will soon be over and that the cycle of growth and a new season, spring, is coming back to nature after the rest and sleep of winter.
Snowdrops are a precursor.

Wednesday (yesterday), a nice sunny afternoon, moderate temperature, about 10 degrees and we go to see if there are any snowdrops in the meadows near the village of MereΔe, about 7 km from home.
I parked the car next to a large tree by the road, we cross the PodstenjΕ‘ek stream and from a distance, you can see that snowdrops are growing on the meadow and in the bushes. And there are still a lot of them.
Of course, we also have our fearless guardian, Atos, who keeps a close eye on what's going on. :) π
Common snowdrops or Galanthus nivalis are the precursor or first flower of spring and are widespread throughout Europe and also in North America.
They are found in meadows and deciduous forests but are more difficult to spot in coniferous forests. I suppose it's because they don't like the acidic soil under spruces and pines.
Anyway, I think there are fewer snowdrops this year than in previous years, but still enough for one bouquet :)
We're home, and, to finish, we have a flower arrangement on the table. Next year, let's go back for snowdrops!

Thanks for joining the Wednesday, its always fun for me to visit the walks from all around the world, getting a feel for communities where people live and what they see on their daily walks
It's really nice to go for a walk in the meadows in this weather. Next time there will be common primroses. π

It's true, we are lucky here that nature has been preserved as much as possible. It will be even more beautiful in spring when everything blooms. π
