Tramping in the deep south peninsula of the Cape, South Africa.

In the deep southern peninsula of Cape Town we are blessed with an incredible number of beach, mountain and forest walks in nature as with most parts of South Africa in various forms.

For today's first #Wednesdaywalk submission awesomely hosted by @tattoodjay I am going to share my experience of the St James Peak hike.

The pretty moderate walk/ hike starts at the Silvermine nature reserve ( I will do a seperate blog on this reserve at some time) and is about a three to four hour walk. The reserve is on top of the mountain range linked to Table mountain and is about a 15 minute drive from my seaside hometown of Muizenberg.

The whole area is covered with various fynbos (fine bush). Fynbos is solely endemic to the Southern and Eastern parts, coastal & mountainous regions, of South Africa. It is made up of about 8 500 species which makes it the largest floral kingdom in the world as far as I know. Many of the plants are used by traditional healers for medicinal purposes.

At about the halfway point one starts to get amazing views of the ocean on both sides of the mountain.

When you reach the end of this particular trail one can sit on the rocks at the side edge of the mountain enjoying the expansive & beautiful view of False Bay before doing the return trip. The above two photos show my hometown & beach of Muizenberg in the foreground.

I hope you enjoyed the trip.

Besides the first photo, that was taken of me by a friend pottering with my camera, all photos were taken by myself.

Wow. What a great trek and views!!! I should visit SA.

Cheers @mypathtofire and it is well worth a visit.

Shoo but we do live in a beautiful city! Probably the only big city I would want to live in... otherwise small towns I reckon!

Totally so @jasperdick and did Knysna & Britannia Bay living in their small days....unbeatable.

Hmmm - meanwhile the only small town I've lived in was Secunda... for a year. Not quite the same! haha

Hahaha.....Ouch! I feel for you big time! That is even worse than behind the boerewors curtain....it is behind the droewors curtain....eish!!
