Those who visit my blog often know that I love participating in @tattoodjay's wonderful initiative, a weekly invitation to go out, observe, walk, and share those small but significant moments that life gives us. For me, it's an unmissable event, a necessary break from routine to reconnect with what inspires me.
Today I want to share with you a very special tour I took through the streets of La Asunción, capital of Nueva Esparta state, in search of urban art. This city, with its colonial air and history alive in every corner, has become an open-air canvas where various artists have captured their talent in murals that beautify and tell stories.
My day started early, as usual, as I set out to do my work. However, from the moment I woke up, I had this walk in mind. Although the weather has not been very sunny lately, with gray skies, that did not prevent me from carrying out my daily activities and, especially, from giving myself this moment of connection with art and the city.
We decided to park a little far from the center so we could walk calmly, without rushing, and thus enjoy every detail of the surroundings. Walking through the streets of La Asunción is like leafing through an open book, where every corner has something to tell. And when that book is illustrated with murals, the experience becomes even more enriching.

Los que visitan a menudo mi blog saben que me encanta participar en la hermosa iniciativa de @tattoodjay, una propuesta que cada semana nos invita a salir, observar, caminar y compartir esos pequeños grandes momentos que nos regala la vida. Para mí, es una cita ineludible, una pausa necesaria en medio de la rutina para reconectar con lo que me inspira.
Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un recorrido muy especial que hice por las calles de La Asunción, capital del estado Nueva Esparta, en busca de arte urbano. Esta ciudad, con su aire colonial y su historia viva en cada rincón, se ha convertido en un lienzo al aire libre donde diversos artistas han plasmado su talento en murales que embellecen y cuentan historias.
Mi día comenzó bien temprano, como de costumbre, saliendo a cumplir con mis labores. Sin embargo, desde que desperté tenía en mente este paseo. Aunque el clima no ha estado muy soleado últimamente, con cielos grises, eso no fue impedimento para que realizara mis actividades cotidianas y, en especial, para que me regalara este momento de conexión con el arte y la ciudad.
Decidimos aparcar un poco lejos del centro para poder caminar con calma, sin prisas, y así disfrutar cada detalle del entorno. Caminar por las calles de La Asunción es como hojear un libro abierto, donde cada esquina tiene algo que contar. Y cuando ese libro está ilustrado con murales, la experiencia se vuelve aún más enriquecedora.
The first mural that caught my attention was one located in front of Plaza Bolívar. It was an imposing work dedicated to Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa, created by the artist Tarsicio Leopoldo. The power of his gaze and the depth of the message made me stop for several minutes. I felt that the mural not only paid tribute, but also reminded us of the importance of education and critical thinking.
El primer mural que captó mi atención fue uno ubicado frente a la Plaza Bolívar. Una obra imponente dedicada a Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa, realizada por el artista Tarsicio Leopoldo. La fuerza de su mirada y la profundidad del mensaje me hicieron detenerme por varios minutos. Sentí que el mural no solo rendía homenaje , sino que también nos recordaba la importancia de la educación y el pensamiento crítico.
I continued my tour around the square and soon came across another visual gem: a mural by the artist Miguel. This work completely captivated me. In it, Miguel manages to intertwine elements of colonial history with symbols of Margariteña culture. The vibrant colors, textures, and details transported me. It was as if each brushstroke spoke for itself, as if the mural breathed.
Continué mi recorrido bordeando la plaza, y pronto me encontré con otra joya visual: un mural del artista Miguel. Esta obra me atrapó por completo. En ella, Miguel logra entrelazar elementos de la historia colonial con símbolos de la cultura margariteña. Los colores vibrantes, las texturas y los detalles me transportaron. Era como si cada pincelada hablara por sí sola, como si el mural respirara.
Further on, I came across a completely different proposal: an abstract mural by the artist Ali. His work is an explosion of color, shapes, and movement. I found it fascinating how he managed to convey emotions. I stood there contemplating it for a long time, trying to decipher the messages hidden between the lines and curves. I will definitely have to come back, because there are works that deserve to be seen more than once.
Más adelante, me topé con una propuesta completamente distinta: un mural de arte abstracto del artista Ali. Su obra es un estallido de color, formas y movimiento. Me pareció fascinante cómo logró transmitir emociones. Me quedé contemplando un buen rato, tratando de descifrar los mensajes ocultos entre líneas y curvas. Definitivamente, tendré que volver, porque hay obras que merecen ser vistas más de una vez.
Each artist left a piece of their soul in this corner of the city. I love the landscapes, the faces, the everyday scenes, and even the more daring works. My husband always tells me that I stand transfixed in front of the murals, as if waiting for them to speak to me. And maybe he's right, because for me, art has a voice, and when we listen to it with our hearts, it transforms us.
Cada artista dejó en este rincón de la ciudad una parte de su alma. Me encantan los paisajes, los rostros, las escenas cotidianas y también las propuestas más arriesgadas. Mi esposo siempre me dice que me quedo embelesada frente a los murales, como si esperara que me hablaran. Y quizás tenga razón, porque para mí, el arte tiene voz, y cuando lo escuchamos con el corazón, nos transforma.
One of my favorite murals was by the artist Dupuy. In it, a serene face merges with a flower, a bird, the sea, and a crab. It is a composition that has it all: nature, humanity, symbolism. It moved me deeply.
Uno de mis murales favoritos fue el del artista Dupuy. En él, un rostro sereno se funde con una flor, un ave, el mar y una jaiba. Es una composición que lo tiene todo: naturaleza, humanidad, simbolismo. Me conmovió profundamente.
Then, I discovered a work by Romanokun, with a heart so peculiar and profound that it seemed to beat from the wall itself.

Urban art has the magic to surprise us, make us reflect, and beautify everyday life. That's why I wanted to bring you this Wednesday stroll, as an invitation to look at our surroundings with new eyes.
El arte urbano tiene esa magia de sorprendernos, de hacernos reflexionar, de embellecer lo cotidiano. Por eso quise traerles este paseo en mi miércoles, como una invitación a mirar con otros ojos lo que nos rodea.
