Visiting a 400 year old wine tree from Maribor, Slovenia

Today we want to take you to the city in north-east of Slovenia. It's called Maribor, and it's the second-largest city.

Because we want to avoid the motor highway, as they are quite expensive here in Slovenia, we took the local roads through villages, mountains and forests. At the time we reached, it took us already two hours driving, and we had realized that Maribor is quite gray city. It reminded on some points to German cities. This got even more confirmed when having a cup of coffee, that most of the city speaks German as well.

The weather was depressing, it was fully cloudy and raining in between. We parked the car and started walking, trying to find the old part of the city called Lent.

Through Maribor goes a wide river called Drava, which is 710 km long and originates from South Tyrol and ends in the Danube river. We enjoyed very much the walk next to the river, observing the birds, swans and Autumn colors from the trees.

What you have to know about Maribor is that it inhabited the Guinness world record oldest wine tree (Žametovka), which is around 400 years old. It was inspiring to observe the big tree and feel the energy of such an important place for the wine industry.
We took some pictures and headed forward to explore the rest of the old town.

We realized lots of houses are abandoned and broken, but on the other hand side there was a lot of art hidden. We spotted some advertisement for the Computer art convention, which reminded us a lot of NFT's and the crypoverse.
In reality, this old and damaged buildings come with a certain charm.

When we were already here, we were interested in trying some local wine from this region. After a couple of wines we started to get hungry and because we didn't want to eat Döner Kebab, we searched nice restaurants, but sadly they were closed or in renovation.

With empty bellies, we left the Maribor and agreed to take a stop at the well-known restaurant Stari Pisker. Though we are not really fan of meat, we couldn't resist trying this gigantic burgers and stakes.

After seven hours on the road, we were happy to be back in the Julian Alps.

Love you all, Hive community! We have already planned something for the next weekend, and we hope you'll love it!

Perhaps on a sunny day the gray buildings would not have felt oppressive, love the old towns with hidden charm.

Food does look exceptionally good at the end of the day, steak superbly done!

Yes, definitely we would percive city totally differently. In any case this mystical fog had it's charm as you said.🙃

Food was so tasty, they prepare really amazing and quality meat 😋

Region steeped in history and charm, a place I would love to visit one day...

the grey day gives a cool mood to the city I am sure on a sunny day it would have a totally different feel to it

Special food, the place creates a romantic atmosphere. See old beautiful lined up that are still solid. Thank you.

True, even in this fog it was a beautiful day 😊 It's worth exploring and we'll sure return to see some more 😍

It is quite depressing to find yourself in a gray and foggy city or place. For this reason, I avoid traveling for much of the year. 😄 If the sun is not shining, I don't feel comfortable. 😎 Still, you found interesting things to photograph. Even the old buildings - they are beautiful. Sometimes weather doesn't really matter. Only the place matters.

Yes, weather has too much influence on us, but still when you are there you quickly see it was worth it 😊
Sunny days hit differently and city would bring some other emotions and feelings.
You said it very nicely, it's only how you make it and of course the good company 🥰
