WORLDPHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST • ROUND #32 FIELDS OF THE WORLD

The Sacred Valley of the Incas has got many fields! Agricultural fields!
These are the ruins and terraces of the old town of Pisac!
Agricultural terraces extend over the surrounding hills! The most beautiful way to climb to the ruins is on foot. Via steep winding paths you walk up along the agricultural terraces that have been built along the hills!

The people of Pisac still use the terraces today!

These terraces are agricultural laboratory terraces! They have build this to find out if the different dept's of these terraces can make a difference in yield! They have discovered that different kinds of crops grow better on different dept's. That's because there is a significant difference in temperature between the top floor of the terraces and on the bottom of one!

Two people are walking down. Here you can see how big they actually are! The terraces are more than 2 meters high!

This is me, a couple of years younger, showing how big these terraces really are! Also look at the cement they used! Many earthquake later and it still holds up to today!
