looking great!!! i hear you on the varnish. I HATE varnishing. its like all this work and then you bugger that step.
no varnish advice from me, as i only do acrylics or oils these days.
we need to see a photo sort of zoomed out with it say on a table. to get the overall feel of it :-)

It's taking its final shape. There's a fixative spray that gently varnishes it. Perhaps it won't damage it:

I still have a bit of Winsor & Newton Professional Matt Varnish Spray left. It did not damage my few previous watercolor pieces. But I am still afraid to use it because this piece is really special and precious to me.
So don't take any chances.
