Hello, Hive family!
Today, I stepped out of my usual studio setup and embraced the outdoors for an open-air painting session. There’s something magical about being surrounded by nature and capturing the vibrant life of a community scene on canvas.
The setting I chose was a quiet, sunlit street with modest houses, a tree swaying gently in the breeze, and a backdrop of earthy tones that added character to the scenery. As the sunlight danced across the surface, I felt inspired to translate the beauty and simplicity of the moment into my art.
THE PROCESS
Painting outdoors has its challenges: adjusting to changing light, working quickly, and staying focused amidst distractions. However, it’s also deeply rewarding. The spontaneity of open-air painting pushes you to work intuitively, capturing the essence of the moment rather than focusing on perfection.
For this piece, I experimented with broad, textured strokes to bring out the warmth and character of the houses and the vibrant greenery around them. I also played with light and shadow to create a sense of depth and atmosphere.
Reflections
This session reminded me why I fell in love with painting in the first place: the ability to observe, interpret, and share life’s simple, beautiful moments. Open-air painting connects me to my surroundings in a way no other medium can, and I’m grateful for the experience.
