Commission # 32 Mechanical Flying Snake Spits Fire Empowered from the Skies| Digital Art

in OnChainArt4 years ago

I was joking with the title. 😂😂😂😂

Do you think that dragons can be considered good and benevolent, according to the Chinese culture they symbolized fortune, strength or nobility and in this new commission for 'Manuels' I think that the representation of the mythological creature as a totally affable being fits him perfectly.

He with her elongated body like that of a snake and claws so sharp that she would cross any surface to fly over the mountains, although her preferred habitat is the bottom of the seas or rivers is not an impediment to navigate the skies. Of course, it would not hesitate to incinerate anything that poses a threat or challenge, so it is better to be careful not to become anyone's dinner.

Tools:

  • Wacom Intuos 4
  • Photoshop

-Step 1:

I started with the sketch, building the main structure of the illustration, according to the description that was provided to me, this dragon should be mechanical, but its appearance was of the Chinese dragon type, so I took a little reference to Shen Long, the dragon of Dragon Ball Z.

-Step 2:

Once the sketch was ready, I added some color, using a gray base to fill the main character and some other gray, yellow and blue tones to give life to the background. Then, I gave the first touches to the dragon, using the layer block, this way I colored only the gray base, without fear of painting something beyond the edges.

-Step 3:

I used the "overlay" fusion mode, with the intention of enhancing some illuminated areas, such as the mouth and the orange openings through the armor. Also, I started using a softer brush to shape the clouds.

-Step 4:

This is the almost complete step of the clouds, but before that, with the help of an oil-type texture brush, I finished building the mountains using the base tones I had previously added. Now, I took the airbrush and started the cloud rendering, to do this I made sure to have the "opacity by pressure", "size by pressure" boxes active and reduced the opacity to 90%, all this to take the colors of the sky and turn them into a dense layer of multicolored clouds, which I took advantage of to cover a big part of the dragon's body and leave it to the imagination, achieving this way to highlight only the front legs and the head of the beast, the place where the viewer's sight will go directly.

Tell me in the comments that you imagine when you see this illustration.

I'll leave you a little gif with the whole process in it, so you can better appreciate the step by step.

See you in a future post!
