Cuenta la historia que el 24 de junio de 1918 la Villa de Uriangato soportó el ataque de un grupo de hombres que escudándose en los ideales de la Revolución mexicana y teniendo como jefe a J. Inés Chávez García, se dedicaban a saquear pueblos para robar todo lo que pudieran y violar a las mujeres, la situación era totalmente adversa para los pobladores, los hombres de Chávez García eran diez veces más que los que defendían la villa, aun así los pobladores lograron resistir con fiereza todo un día el asedio brutal en contra del poblado hasta que lograron repeler el ataque al amanecer.
Uno de los sitios que donde se libró la mas intensa batalla fue en un barrio conocido como el atorón, ahora es recordado como el lugar donde auténticos héroes lucharon contra criminales.

The story tells that on June 24, 1918, the Uriangato's village withstood the attack of a group of men who, shielding themselves from the ideals of the Mexican Revolution and having J. Inés Chávez García as chief, dedicated themselves to looting towns to steal everything what they could and rape the women, the situation was totally adverse for the settlers, Chávez García's men were ten times more than those who defended the town, even so the settlers managed to fiercely resist the brutal siege against them the whole day until they managed to repel the attack at dawn.
One of the places where the most intense battle was fought was in a neighborhood known as the atorón, now it is remembered as the place where true heroes fought against criminals.

Strong women, strong men - we need strong art to compel us to consider that which dances at the edges of our awareness. The confrontation etches a line of memory into consciousness. This story I will never forget, since my first reaction was to cringe at the images. I find violence abhorrent and the depiction of it is a really tough call for the artist - to not titillate but to use it mindfully.
