Mint 2B | My First Minted NFT

Earlier this year I've been looking for ways to get into the NFT(Non-Fungible Token) world as a seller. I've seen some tutorials on YouTube but it's kind of complicated and a lot to take in, so my lazy self just kind of gave up and forgot about it.

Yesterday, I came across this post by @anneporter about minting NFTs thru the website/app Curate. I took the bait and browsed through her article. It was easy to understand and very straight forward. So, for this post I won't be delving much into the NFT terms and definitions, as well as the step by step process on how to mint as she already covered it in her blog. I highly encourage you to check it out.

Making My First NFT

I've put a lot of thought into making this piece. I wanted my first NFT to be simple enough yet it still reflects my art style and thought process. I also wanted it to remind me of Hive, as it was the first thing that came into mind when I was conceptualizing this piece.

I thought of using the Hive token logo but I'm afraid that I might get a copyright strike, so I just used the shape of the logo instead. I'm a fan of subliminals and double entendres, so I like putting it in my works as much as possible.

Starting with the artwork's title, "Mint 2B", was a play on the phrase 'meant to be', like I was destined to have stumbled upon that article that led to me creating my first NFT. Also, upon breaking down the title you get Mint and 2B. Two different things that I managed to put together to make it make sense. Mint represents the action of minting and also the plant. In this case I used a hexagonal shaped mint flavored candy. While 2B on the other hand is a type of lead pencil that is softer and darker than the regular B lead pencil, also in hexagonal prism shape.

Actually, my first concept revolved around the idea of 'mint to bee', because "Hive". But I scratched it as soon as I realized while I was sketching that the pencil and the Hive logo have the same six-sided shape. So I immediately made the connection in my head. Good thing I had drafting classes in high school and I remembered about the 2B pencil. It made the concept more unique and cohesive.

After the pencil on paper sketch, I took a photo of it and continued working on it on my android phone using the app Autodesk Sketchbook. Here are the screencaps of the work in progress:

Last step was submitting it to Curate's NFT marketplace for approval. Fortunately, it was approved after 2 hours since submission. I priced it at around 100 XCUR which is approximately $270.

I don't want to sell it at a cheaper price as it was my first hive inspired NFT. But it is negotiable though, if you are an interested Hiver. Comment down below your offer, and maybe we can have a deal.

Thank you, and see you on my next post!
