A morning with the seals.

The last few days have been tough with a little panic and anxiety setting in for some unknown reason. It was rather mild out this morning (and still is), so the youngest and I shot up the coast to see the seal pups. It was a flying visit as we had to get back by 12:00 but we managed to get there, have a walk about, and back again in under an hour.

We were immediately welcomed by a seal warden at the top of the dunes who pointed this little dude out to us. She explained they are weaned after 3 weeks and then just hang about on the beach until they can head to the sea.

Hiking to the Tugela Gorge

The Drakensberg mountains are the central spot for various hiking routes. The Royal Natal National Park is the nearest to our campground thus the reason for us visiting it quite often when we are camping at ATKV Drakensville. The park is part of the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. The rates are R60 for South African citizens and R260 for International visitors. The road to the entrance of the park isn’t that great as there are a lot of potholes. There is a shop where you can buy physical maps of the different trails or some snacks. If I am being honest though, the quality of this shop declined. Usually it was stocked to the brim with snacks, gifts and equipment which was still the case a few years back when I last visited in 2019, but now it is empty.

My 2024 Calendar Pictures

Every year I create a calendar for myself, friends, and family. I'm also selling a few but this is not a post to advertise it. Instead, I just take this as an opportunity to share some of the best pictures I took this year (and to make a little comeback to Hive after some busy months of little activity). While vertical seems to be the standard nowadays because of smartphones, I deliberately make the calendar in horizontal format to create a space for my horizontal pictures.

A cat named "Miracle"

Another hiking photo shoot for a cat named “Miracle”. The pictures were taken a couple of weeks ago, on a mountain near the Volga River. Even though the cat has fur, he is not very good with the cold, so he has to be dressed in special clothes. It doesn't interfere with his movements, but still irritates him a little. That's why he looks unhappy in many photos.
