Battle Review ⚔: Friday Hive Chess S21 Tournament

Game Chess GIF

Intro

It's been a while I reviewed our usual Friday Hive Chess Tournament. We often finish around 10:00pm (Nigerian Time) and I get lazy to write reviews.
I decided today to beat procrastination and my sleepy eyes to cook up this post.

Today's tournament was pretty fun and a lot of players have significantly improved.

Player migmag played very good today. Check out his stats, his skills has significantly improved. 👏🏼

Here's how the final leaderboard looked:

  1. 🥇 Odnoobraz_bcm– 21 points

  2. 🥈 SouthGamer- 21 points

  3. 🥉 Stuffings– 17 points

📊

I was able to amass a total of 10 points and secured the 9th place ♟

As usual, let's highlight some of the games that are quite interesting and we could learn from 👇🏼

Today's Game Highlights and Analysis

JUST_OLA VS ZGM_SAMOSTICALLY

@samostically is one the top players in the blockchain team. I won this match against him; you could call it an unfair advantage because of his terrible internet connection. The Nigerian audience can relate, it kills your work flow.

White beserked and opened with the Scandinavian Defense: Modern Variation. This game was quite chaotic from start to finish. There were a lot of inaccuracies and missed chances on both sides. Black won and you could say it wasn't the cleanest win but it was entertaining.

JUST_OLA VS LIGHTEYE

White opened with the Queen's Gambit Declined: Marshall Defense. We both had strong positions but white made a blunder by taking the pawn at g7, it gave room for me to attack and take his Rook.

Winning Move:

Black moved to e2, this move gave me chance to obtain White's second rook which then led to a resign from White and I won the round

STAYOUTOFTHERZ VS SOUTHGAMER

I got curious of @stayoutoftherz and the Silver-medal winner Southgamer.
White handled the Benko Gambit with calm precision.

The turning point for white occurred at move 31(Rook to g1). He then continued by doubling his two rooks in one column and forcing Blacks Queen to precarious positions that eventually led to a clean checkmate ♟.
