Game 1
@mendelito vs @maestroask
Mendelito emerged victorious as the winner of Round 12 of the HiveChess Saturday Tournament. It happens to be his first time, and he did it in style, with a 69% win rate, 100% berserk rate, and a performance of 2277. One of the players he brought down in his conquest to winning the event was @maestroask.
1. d4 d6 2. e3 g6 3. Bd3 Bg7 4. Nf3 e5 5. Nbd2 Qe7 6. O-O
The game opens with a Queen's Pawn Game, and I am not surprised that the position setup for black is not like a conventional opening. Maestroask, who is well known for playing unorthodox or unconventional lines, played it again in this game; while Mendelito, played a simple setup that is similar to the London System or Colle System.
33. Ng7??
White gained a +3 advantage after black played Ng7. Why?
This is what I share in my endgame tip series in tip 1, where I spoke about the king. One should activate their king as early as possible when it comes to the endgame, where there are fewer pieces on the chessboard. This is what white employed in this position, his king will be coming to e3 on its next move, and black's bishop d1 is now trapped. Once the white king threatens the bishop, it will fall on its next move.
59. Kf5
The advantage has gotten too clear at this point with white's king being fully active and black not only having a more passive king but also being down a mate. It became hard to play anymore, as the time was up. Nice one from Mendelito is exploiting Black's weakness with an active king.

Game 2
@jaki01 vs @justfavour
1. d4 d5 2. Bg5 h6 3. Bh4 Nf6 4. Bxf6 gxf6 5. c4 Bg7 6. cxd5 Qxd5
It was yet another Queen's Pawn Game for this game between Jaki and Justfavour, but this time it was the Levitsky Attack. Not a popular opening you get to see played in regular chess games, but it is nice when it resurfaces. It shows that there are a lot of chess openings out there. Justfavour is another player who did well in the round. I would like to describe him as the sheep in the pack of wolves because of his rating, but he still managed to finish ahead of a couple of strong players. Nice one.
48. Rxc7??
The advantage took a while before it came in for Justfavour but it finally did when white made a blunder by using his rook to capture a well-defended pawn by the knight on b5. This is what time pressure can do to a chess player as Jaki was down on time since he went berserk just to gain more points if he won. After taking the rook Justfavour was not another 1800-rated player. He wrapped up the game neatly.
