Bad start and good finish - S21 Round 9 Recap

in The Chess Community9 days ago (edited)

Hello everyone.
We are nearing end of the season 21. Today was round 9 and we have 3 more rounds to go. There is more time to change your standings in all tournament groups. Same as round 8 we had ties in points for first two places.

This round winner was @maestroask (Odnoobraz_bcm). Congrats
@eniolw (eniolw) was second with same number of points but tie brakes did their job. Congratulations. When you play top spot is in consideration.
Third place for @tangibleay (Tangible_ay)

Top 10

Again top 10 finish for me. Some people were missing this round so there was opportunity to jump in top 10.
Ninth place is good enough.

I managed to play 18 games this round. Most games played in tournament. Good for me.
First part of the tournament was not good. In first 9 games I managed to get only one win. But in last 9 games I won 6 times.
Bad start and good finish.

Games

I want to show this game. I saw some tactics with Queen sacrifice move that did not happen but it looked nice.

After placing my bishop on c4 I staked the Rooks on b file and started prepared attack on my opponents King.
Here I saw move Queen takes a3. If Queen is capture in next two move there was checkmate. My opponent played rook to d2.
But plan was same for me.

I went for a Queen move
It is nice to see that engine is showing same move in this position.

Game ended here. Queen sacrifice move would be nice but it was win in the end.

Huge blunder

This game was something else. I made huge blunder but my opponent opponent missed it. We can say that it is not blunder if you opponent dont see it.

In this position in order to make some space for my king I had to move my Queen. And nice place did I choose.

Since he had back rank issues I played c5. Make move for the King and threaten checkmate. Wrong. It was so simple blunder. My opponent was too occupied with trying to checkmate my king that he missed the free Queen.

What is interesting is that for next 5 moves Queen was standing on c5 waiting to be captured. It did not happen.
My King was pushed up to the g3. Important place as it was controlling escape squares for the opponents King. And here after Rook to h6 move my Queen was free to deliver c8 checkmate.
It was one move away from disaster and in the end one move decided game.

Fun round. Only 17 players this round but time mode was fast so one could play many games.
Three round to go.
