Lichess Team Liga: We did it again! Next round tomorrow!

Dear chessfans!

last Thursday our Blockchain chess team went through its fourth battle of the "Lichess Liga Team Battle" (more about this event here) and for the fourth consecutive time we could advance to the next level!

We played in liga 9A, with 78 players from 10 teams and an average rating of 2043, way more than in the previous leages! There was a GM, an IM and some FMs as well there, my average opponent rating was 2199 - insane! I started with 4 out of 4, but then lost no less than 9 games in a row - it felt like a curse. Thanks to several strong players our team could land on a very good second place, @jaki01, our top scorer, could even win against an IM (here he describes how) and @dhilan04 drew against an IM (check our his report here)! Congrats to this great team effort!

Here are the final standings:

Thanks a lot to ALL participants: @jaki01, @dhilan04 (tortyllan), @mundocuriosidad, @deadleaf, @rosmarly, @kintokris, @agreste, @stranger27, @rodrook, @schamangerbert, @rafaelaquino and @sammy00 (migmag). To the 7 top-ranked ones I sent already 1 Hive each, to @jaki01 as topscorer 2!

There is no break, the next event starts tomorrow Sunday, 28th May, 18h GMT.

We will be in liga 8B (ranked up from last time). The more from our team participate, the higher our chances will be to get a good result and improve in the rankings. E.g. if we end up in the top 3, we will be in liga 7 next time! If we make it to rank 8 only, we will be back to liga 9.

How far can we get?

The rules:

  • Everybody in our Lichess team can join using the link to the tournament (pick our team if asked 😃, in case you are part of multiple teams)
  • A win collects 2 points for our team, a draw 1
  • Only the results of the 7 best contributors of each team are counted in this liga (but all skill levels are important, because each win means potentially less points for the other teams!)
  • Every Thursday and Sunday are tournaments
  • The links to the upcoming tournaments are - dependent on our result - already provided in the description of the tournament itself and also on our team page.

Mode: 3+2 (3 minutes per game, 2 sec. increment per move), 100 min. rated arena, win streaks & berserk allowed

Congratulations guys!

I follow your accomplishment in this league system since the first one, in your posts. However never looked at the exact results, as you mentioned always the stronger players to join, I supposed it is an average rating system. So decided not to play at all, I supposed i would just pull down that average. Looks like not.

Just to double check, it's adding all players points together? Can I pull back the final result of the team by my poor ones or not? Next time I would join, if there is no downside for the team.

No, there is absolutely no downside if you join, only the 7 best scoring players count, there is no average. So every single point you score, takes away points from the other teams and keeps opponents of other teams away from scoring. Would be great if you could join!

Congratulations!

I didn't know you had a chess league here at Hive, the business looks pretty competitive! Good luck to all participants in the next event
