Chess Journey [From struggling with knight movement to brilliance, (well ,Almost š ).
It was just a regular school day many years ago, nothing special, until we were suddenly told to settle down in class. Weird. Moments later, a man walked in and said, āGood morning, Iām here to teach you chess.ā
Chess?
Most of us barely knew what that even was. We shot confused looks at each otherāpawns, kings, whateverāwe didnāt care. The guy didnāt seem bothered. He just set up a big chessboard on the wall and started explaining the pieces and how they moved.
Then came the knight. That one messed with my head. The way it moved made no sense at all. I couldnāt stop thinking about it. For the next few days, I obsessed over getting it right.
And thatās how it started. One weird L-shaped move later, I was hooked on chess.
I would spend the next couple of weeks, months, playing chess and suddenly I changed school and completely stopped playing chess my newly found love for the next couple of years.
One evening, while browsing the internet, I came across a website where people could watch and comment on live chess gamesāit was called kibitzing. Out of curiosity, I stayed to watch a few games.
To my surprise, I felt that old spark for chess return. As I followed the matches, one name stood out: Magnus.
He was playing in the tournament at the time, and just like that, I was drawn back into the world of chessāthis time with a new sense of excitement.
What started as a quiet rediscovery soon turned into something much bigger. One game led to another, one late-night analysis turned into weeks of studyāand before I knew it, I was representing my university in chess.
Tournaments became a regular part of life, each one taking me to a new corner of the country. From cramped hostel rooms to grand halls buzzing with clocks and tension, every event had its own story. Some days I won, some I learnedābut every trip came with unforgettable adventures, strange encounters, and friendships forged over 64 squares.
It wasnāt just about the game anymore. It was a journeyāand I was all in.
What I love most about chess isnāt just winning (although thatās nice too š). Itās the focus it demands, the strategy it teaches, and the calm it brings even in chaos. Itās also introduced me to some amazing communities, both online and offline.
These days, Iām about 2000+ rating ELO with FIDE, and I currently hit 2500 on Lichess, playing casually with friends, and I still feel like thereās a lifetime more to learn. But thatās the beauty of chessāitās a puzzle you can never truly finish, only master a little more each day.
Interests in Sports
Sports have always been a big part of who I am. Iām especially passionate about basketball, football, and tennis, each brings its own thrill, whether it's a buzzer-beater, a last-minute goal, or a five-set showdown.
I proudly support Real Madrid in football and the Denver Nuggets in the NBA. Lately, Iāve been backing the Pacers in the ongoing NBA finals against OKCš theyāve shown real grit, and I wouldnāt be surprised if they clinch the title.
Tennis is another sport I closely follow. Iāve been particularly impressed by Jannik Sinner, his calm demeanor, powerful baseline game, and rapid rise through the ranks make him one of the most exciting players to watch right now.
Relationship with Sam.
My journey with @samostically has been nothing short of incredibleāa bond thatās stretched all the way back to our secondary school days. From being teammates at the National Sports Festival in 2020, to squaring off as opponents at the West African University Games, to countless road trips across the country chasing chessboards and checkmates togetherāwe've truly shared it all.
And now, in yet another exciting twist, I'm joining Hive through the onboarding program by none other than @samostically himself. How full circle is that? I genuinely appreciate itāand Iām looking forward to what comes next.
