Is wisdom the ability to calculate risks — or the courage to take them anyway?
Wisdom can be seen in both. True wisdom lies in knowing when fear protects you and when it holds you back from what you could have achieved. The bravest thing is taking that bold step while still being observant enough to weigh the risks involved and being open to learn from them.
People often mistake caution for wisdom. But if wisdom only means avoiding pain, what kind of life does that leave behind?
Real wisdom is taking the risk with the mindset of accepting whatever outcome comes success or failure. With failure come new insights, ideas, and strategies. Lessons are produced to help us take better steps next time. But when fear holds us back, it locks away our potential. We never get to discover our abilities, and someday, we may regret not trying when we had the chance and we can't say it's wisdom.
A real life scenario
If anyone had told my mum she would one day own a poultry farm, she would have laughed it off as a joke because the risk involved made her dislike owning a poultry farm. When we moved into our new apartment, we finally had enough space to start something. The best idea that fit the space was raising broilers. At first, my mum was skeptical, she knew the risks involved in rearing chicks. But after some discussion, we decided to give it a try anyway.

We started with 25 chicks. During their brooding period, we were extremely cautious, and not a single chick died. When they matured, we sold them at good prices, and my mum was so happy with the outcome that we decided to expand. This time, we raised 50 chicks. Feeling confident, we became a bit relaxed thinking our fears were behind us.
Just two weeks later, things changed. The chicks started dying, their growth slowed, and we lost about half of them. When my mum called a veterinarian, he explained that poor management and factory incubation issues were to blame. He prescribed some medications, and thankfully, the situation improved.
That experience didn’t stop us it made us stronger. The poultry business is full of risks, but we learned valuable lessons, gained experience, and developed better strategies for the next batch. Today, my mum’s poultry farm is thriving. We’ve even expanded into catfish farming all because we took that first step.

This journey taught me that growth always begins with risk. It’s the same mindset I carry into life and even here on the Hive blockchain showing up, trying, and believing that every effort counts toward something greater.
As Mandela once said, “Courage isn’t the absence of fear, but the ability to act despite it.”
That’s the essence of wisdom understanding that fear will always exist but refusing to let it define your limits. Wisdom isn’t about knowing every outcome; it’s about daring to act despite uncertainty. Because some lessons can only be learned by leaping, trying, failing and ultimately, by living without regret.
So to me, it is bravery to take the leap.

"Wisdom is profitable to direct", direction won't come when you fold your hands and do nothing, no. It's only when you take that leap of faith and keep going no matter the challenges, that you get the directions on how to navigate and break through.
Fear - of the unknown is inevitable but dwelling on it limits one. The end result is regret.
