Does The Truth Always Set Us Free?

The truth will set you free, they preach to us sometimes, but I wonder, this truth, does it ever set us free entirely?

Two years into high school, I confronted my Mama at a parents' conference held at school. For a while, I had learnt that my father was not my biological father, and I set out to know the truth: who is my father? By asking that question, with my quest for the truth, I opened her past wounds, wounds she had managed to successfully bury in the past, where they belong. I just wanted the truth. Furthermore, the truth would set me free, or so I thought. In return, I broke her heart, and for once in my school years, I was glad I was in a boarding school. How could I face her?

That experience taught me that truth does set us free, but at the same time, truth keeps us captive, it might bring us clarity, but truth wrecks too. Truth builds trust, but the same truth is hurtful. I did understand why sometimes, when it comes to the past, silence is the best weapon. Not every human is capable of handling the truth, some can't even handle sugarcoated truths.

Truth is multi-faced. Because even when it can wreak havoc, when it comes to building relationships, truth is essential. Lies, in relationships, are the havoc wreckers. Unlike when you are dealing with the past, in starting a relationship, no matter how many lies your past has been built on, a new chance is given, to move forward truthfully. A renewed chance to rewrite our paths, with truths as we move forward.

The same happens in medicine and health matters. Although we're not always wired to grasp the truth, it is in the patient's best interest to be handed the pure truth. A life and/or lives are at stake, especially if the ailment in question is contagious. The patient should also, in the interest of preventing spread, keep their partners in the know. It is a messy situation, yes, but it is one that can save lives, if the receiver is humane enough.

To conclude, I believe that when it comes to the truth, even when the truth sets us free, it is best to look at the circumstances. In digging up bones, silence is kinder than reopening buried wounds, but the same truth is essential and necessary to build healthy relationships and to put an end to the spread of diseases.

I agree with you that sometimes the truth can wreck havoc or break the peace but I still think it's essential most of the time. Cause the more we hide, the more larger and painful the truth becomes. And when someone eventually finds out the truth through another means, it still breaks the peace nevertheless. In a bigger way.

I agree with you too. Hiding the truth is painful, especially when you find out from someone else. That really stings especially in relationships. That's why I believe that when it comes to health and relationships it's best to come clean from the word go. Thank you for your insight❤️!

Lies are always weak even when they tends to cover up certain things but one thing is of certain that truth always prevails

I agree with you that lies are weak and they end up crumbling. Thank you for visiting❤️!
