This morning my head felt heavy, and I couldn’t get out of bed until after 10 o’clock.
It seems it was because of the weather—when I looked outside, it was snowing… the big, wet, heavy kind, what they call “botayuki” I suppose. The flakes were large and soggy. The roofs, cars, and roadside trees had turned white, but the snow wasn’t sticking to the roads. Today is election day. The polling station isn’t far, but I decided to wait until the snow stopped before heading out.
My eldest son got invited to play with friends and left the house before I did. After that the snow kept falling lazily on and off, finally stopping around late afternoon. I bundled up heavily and went outside, but the air was so cold it felt like my ears might snap off! Cycling would have meant facing the wind head-on, which seemed freezing, so I decided to walk to the polling station… it takes a bit longer, but at least my body warms up that way.
After voting and doing some shopping, it was past 5 p.m. when I got home. My son, who had gone out to play, still wasn’t back. He hadn’t taken his wallet or phone, so I figured he was probably at a friend’s house playing games or something. A little while later he came home out of breath. When I asked where he’d been, he said excitedly, “We were making snowmen at the park! Serious ones! We made a huge one!”Well, snow is pretty rare in Tokyo after all…
The photos are from the way home. The row of child statues next to the housing complex looked so cold and miserable. For some reason the cherry blossoms that bloomed too early were trembling too.
I really hope it gets warm soon!

今朝は頭が重く、10時過ぎまで布団から出られませんでした。
どうやら天気のせいだったようで、外を見ると雪が降っています・・・「ぼた雪」というやつでしょうか、粒が大きく水っぽい雪でした。屋根や車、街路樹は白くなっていましたが、道路には積もっていません。今日は選挙の日、投票所は遠くはありませんが、雪が止んでから出ることにしました。
長男は友達から遊びの誘いがあり、私が出るより先に家を出ました。結局その後も雪はダラダラと降り続け、やんだのは夕方近く。厚着して外へ出ましたが、耳が千切れそうな空気の冷たさです！自転車だと風が吹きつけて寒そうだったので、投票所まで歩くことにしました・・・ちょっと時間はかかるけど、その方が身体も温まりますし。
投票と買い物を済ませ、帰宅すると17時を過ぎていました。遊びに出た長男はまだ帰っていません。財布もスマホも持っていかなかったので、友達の家でゲームでもしているのかなと思っていました。しばらくすると、息を切らした長男が帰宅。どこへ行っていたのか尋ねると、「公園で雪だるま作ってた！ガチのやつ！でかいのできた！」と嬉しそう。確かに、東京じゃ雪は珍しいもんね・・・😅
写真は帰り道のものですが、団地脇に並んでいた子どもの像が寒そうで寒そうで。なぜか早く咲いてしまった桜の花も震えていました。
早く暖かくなってほしいです！

We got snow here too. Pretty rare in the Nagoya area. My kids had a lot of fun!
Snow in Nagoya is pretty rare, huh! Over here too, my usually rebellious eldest son—who's always got a bad attitude during his teenage phase—was super happy making a snowman, so that was nice 😂

Hi @go-kyo. From what you've shown us, the weather there is bad for the flowering trees... and of course for people. Although I imagine your son had a great time making that big snowman.

I didn't know how to describe the color of the statue in the photo... It's not really green, right? Yeah, 'tokiwa-iro' might actually be perfect for it! 👍
And here in Canada , in my city no snow at all 😥
I thought it snowed and was super cold everywhere in Canada during winter! 👀
It totally depends where you are...here in the west we are having not normal winter super dry and warmer... in the east they are getting all the white powder xD
