Finally... an Alien has come to our home!
I can never forget the shock I felt when I watched Aliens on TV during middle school. The first time I saw it, I was struck by the despair and loneliness of the battle on a planet with no hope of rescue, the infuriating resilience and tenacity of the Aliens, and the sheer brutality of the "chestburster" scene—I regretted watching it so much that I wished I could take it back 🤮
But for some reason, I felt the urge to watch it again... and over the past 30 years, I've lost count of how many times I've seen it. I've watched 1 through 4, and each has its favorite moments, but hands down, my absolute top pick is "2." The first one has that perfect quiet, heavy SF horror vibe that's irresistible, but it's in Aliens where protagonist Ripley's strength, kindness, and intelligence truly shine!
Now then, as a 30-year Alien fan though I am, I've never bought any Alien-related merchandise before. I'm not really into collecting figures in the first place, and the adult Alien figures I liked were all pretty expensive.
Yesterday, I visited a toy shop called "Gojira-ya" under the elevated tracks in Kōenji (I'll post about the Kōenji visit tomorrow).
That's where I found this Facehugger figure. It was priced at 4,000 yen (approximately $27), and I pretty much decided on the spot. The white-haired shop owner put it in a large paper bag for me, but it was so big that the tail stuck out. He even wrapped that part in a plastic bag... but honestly, I must have looked pretty suspicious on the train.
Well, buying it was great, but now I'm stumped on where to display it in my house. I've just tossed it around for now, and I've already been startled by it twice 😂
I asked my elder son to strike a pose "suffering from being attacked by the Facehugger," and he did it without hesitation. He's in his rebellious phase, but he's got a good sense of humor. Can you tell it's life-sized?

ついに・・・我が家にエイリアンがやってきました！
中学生の頃、テレビで放送していた『エイリアン2』を観た時の衝撃は忘れられません。最初に観た時は、助けの来ない惑星での闘いという絶望感、心細さ、腹立たしいほどのエイリアンの強靭さ・しつこさ、そして「チェストバスター」の登場シーンのあまりの残酷さにショックを受け、観たことを後悔したほどでした。。。🤮
でもなぜか、また観たくなって…その後30年の間に、もう何度観たか分かりません。1〜4までは観ており、それぞれに好きなポイントはあるものの、やっぱり私の中でのダントツは「2」です。1もSFホラーらしい静かで重たい雰囲気が堪りませんが、主人公リプリーの強さ・優しさ・賢さが光っているのはやはり「2」だと思います！
そんなわけで30年来のエイリアンファンの私ですが、これまでにエイリアン関連グッズを買ったことはありませんでした。元々フィギュアなどを集める方ではないし、エイリアンの成体のフィギュアは、良いなと思うものはかなり高額だったからです。何十万とか。
昨日、高円寺の高架下にある「ゴジラや」という玩具屋さんを訪れました（高円寺でのことについては、また明日投稿しますね）。
そこで発見したのが、このフェイスハガーのフィギュアだったのです。お値段は4,000円、ほぼ即決でした。白髪の店主が大きな紙袋に入れてくれましたが、大きいので尾の部分がどうしてもはみ出してしまいます。そこもビニール袋で包んでくれましたが・・・電車の中では正直かなり怪しかったのではないかと😂
さて、買ったまでは良かったのですが・・・家の中のどこに飾ったものか困っています。その辺にポイっと置いておいて、すでに2回ほどビックリしています。
長男に「フェイスハガーに襲われて苦しんでいるポーズをとって」と頼んだところ、あっさり言うことを聞いてくれました。反抗期ですが、ノリは良い。実物大であることがお分かりいただけるでしょうか？

Hi @go-yko, let's talk about Alien. I partly agree with you. My favorite is the first one, for all the reasons you mention... and it was also the first time I “met” H. R. Giger's creation. The second one, Aliens, is my second favorite in the series, also for all the reasons you mention... Making a movie like the first one didn't make sense, and this sequel, with the relationship between Ripley and the girl, is very good.
Seeing that the alien has arrived at your house, I hope that as I write this, you are all well. 😱

H. R. Giger's creatures are truly captivating, aren't they? I once looked into buying a figure of the adult Alien because I wanted one so badly, but it was too expensive, so I gave up.
Science fiction buffs and core fans all say they love the first one. Even though it's from the 1970s, it still feels fresh today. Personally, I found the android Ash scarier than the Alien itself 😱😱

Aliens is one of the top 3 best sci-fi films of all time. A masterpiece that has haunted my nightmares since I saw it in the 1980's. The xenomorph has forced me to hide many a time in my dreams. No other movie or character has had that effect on me.

Oh, it's been over 40 years since you started having nightmares about aliens😂 The Xenomorphs are terrifying, the Facehuggers too, and the Chestbusters—all of them are horrifying. But the story is so compelling that I just keep watching it again and again.
