Some time ago, I heard or read somewhere about an anime called The Blue Box. I didn't know exactly what it was about, but since I had just finished watching another one, I decided to give it a try. To be honest, it's not really my type, but I enjoyed the first 25 episodes, which are available on Netflix.

This anime, whose Japanese name is Ao no Hako (like the manga), tells the story of Taiki Inomata, a freshman at Emei High School and member of the boys' badminton team, who enjoys watching basketball player Chinatsu Kano practice every morning because he is in love with her.
But what this boy did not expect was that fate would bring them closer together, as after a short conversation in which Taiki is surprised, the young woman already knows his name. Chinatsu moves into his house so she can stay in Japan, as her family is leaving the country, and since their mothers are close friends, Taiki's family will host her.
For those who haven't seen this anime, it's a story about young people struggling to achieve their dreams between being students and participating in their teams' various events, as both have promised to go to the nationals.
Without a doubt, the plot is very adolescent, but it reminds those of us who are older of how we felt at that age, when we liked someone, and how we had to work hard as students to achieve the goals we set for ourselves.
The mix of study and sport presented in the anime is appealing, as is the romance involved in it all, with the inevitable entanglements. This part reminded me of when my son studied at a sports high school; he spent all day there, as he had practice in the morning and classes in the afternoon.
Now, as for the development of the deep characters you can connect with, they sometimes made me despair, as I felt they were making mountains out of molehills, but these are things that tend to happen at this age, especially because assumptions are made and conclusions are drawn based on what is heard or seen, and often the information is incomplete, although the latter is difficult if the other person has no idea that we are interested in them.
This deep development includes secondary characters who form an important part of the plot, such as Hina, who didn't know she was in love with Taiki until she saw her best friend getting closer and closer to another girl. Seeing how she changes in response to this and everything that happens to this character makes us empathize with her.
Something I loved was the animation, especially when the faces of some characters are highlighted at specific moments or to represent how they are seen through the eyes of others, or in moments when they are expressing emotions, for example, when Taiki sees Chinatsu, or when Hina expresses her feelings to Taiki, not to mention when they cry; the tears flow so realistically that it's moving, and you identify with the character in that moment.
This time I didn't give the endings a chance, but of the two openings, I liked the first one much more than the second. In it, we see that the passion present in the lives of young people is sports; although they have interests like any other young person, they fall in love with someone and want to have fun, they are focused on growing in their respective disciplines, and this is seen throughout the episodes, giving importance to the games and training of each of the characters.
In short, although it is an anime for teenagers, The Blue Box is an anime that people of all ages can enjoy, because the love story presented to us feels tender and sweet, focused on genuine feelings and mutual understanding; in addition, they manage to get viewers interested in the characters' growth and sporting achievements. I give this anime a 7/10.

Hace algún tiempo escuché o leí en alguna parte del anime titulado La caja azul; no sabía exactamente de que trataba, pero ya que había terminado de ver otro, decidí darle una oportunidad a este, la verdad, no es de mi tipo, pero disfruté sus primeros 25 capítulos, los cuales están disponibles en la plataforma streaming Netflix

Este anime, cuyo nombre en japonés es Ao no Hako (al igual que el manga), nos narra como Taiki Inomata, un estudiante de primer año en el instituto Emei y miembro del equipo masculino de bádminton, disfruta cada mañana al ver entrenar a la basquetbolista Chinatsu Kano, ya que está enamorado de ella.
Pero lo que este chico no esperaba es que el destino los acercara, ya que luego de una pequeña conversación en la que Taiki queda sorprendido, ya la joven conoce su nombre. Chinatsu se muda a su casa para poder quedarse en Japón, ya que su familia se va de país, y como las madres de ambos son grandes amigas, la familia de Taiki la hospedará.
Para los que no han visto este anime, es toda una narración de jóvenes que luchan para lograr sus sueños entre ser estudiantes y lograr participar en los diferentes eventos de sus equipos, ya que ambos han prometido ir a las nacionales.
Sin duda, la trama es muy adolescente, pero nos recuerda a los que somos mayores la forma en la que nos sentíamos a esa edad, ante la persona que nos gustaba, y como hay que esforzarse cuando somos estudiantes para lograr las metas que nos trazamos.
Esa mezcla de estudio y deporte que plantea el anime es atractiva, además del romance envuelto en todo ello, con los enredos que no faltan, Esta parte me hizo recordar cuando mi hijo estudió en un liceo deportivo; pasaba todo el día en este, lugar, ya que tenía prácticas en la mañana y clases en las tardes
Ahora, en cuanto al desarrollo de los personajes profundos con los que se puede conectar, a veces me hacían desesperar, pues sentía que se ahogaban en un vaso de agua, pero son las cosas que suelen pasar a esta edad, sobre todo porque se suponen cosas, se sacan conclusiones por lo que se escucha o ve y muchas veces no se tiene la información completa, aunque esto último se dificulta si la otra persona no tiene ni idea de que estamos interesados en el otro.
Este desarrollo profundo incluye personajes secundarios que forman una parte importante de la trama, como por ejemplo Hina, que no sabía que estaba enamorada de Taiki, hasta que vio a quien era su mejor amigo cada vez más cerca de otra chica. Ver como cambia ante esto y todo lo que ocurre con este perssonaje nos hace sentir empatía con ella.
Algo que amé fue su animación, sobre todo cuando resaltan los rostros de algunos personajes en momentos específicos o para representar como son vistos por los ojos de otros o en momentos en los que están expresando emociones, ejemplo, cuando Taiki ve a Chinatsu, o cuando Hina le expresa lo que siente a Taiki, y ni hablar de cuando lloran; las lágrimas se ven fluir de manera tan real que conmueve y uno se identifica con el personaje en ese momento.
Esta vez no le di oportunidad a los endings, pero de los dos openings, el primero me gustó mucho más que el segundo. En ese nos dejan ver que la pasión presente en la vida de los jóvenes es el deporte; aunque tienen intereses como los de cualquier otro joven, se enamoran de alguien y desean divertirse, están centrados en crecer en sus respectivas disciplinas y esto se ve a lo largo de los capítulos, dándole importancia a los partidos y el entrenamiento de cada uno de los personajes.
En resumen, aunque es un anime para adolescentes, La caja azul es un anime que personas de todas las edades pueden disfrutar, porque la historia de amor que se nos plantea se siente tierna y dulce, centrada en sentimientos genuinos y comprensión mutua; además, logran que los espectadores se interesen en el crecimiento y logros deportivos de los personajes. Yo le doy a este anime un 7/10.
