Solo Leveling (A Review)

in The Anime Realm14 days ago

I’ve been hearing about Solo leveling which has been hyped for a while now. Even as it was recommended to me, it was recommended with lots of hype. To a fair extent it lived up to the hype. It was epic how the main character moved from being a total weakling to becoming the strongest in the animeverse, obtaining all the shadow abilities little to little by striving hard even through near death experiences.

They’re quite a number of animes with similar story line but this just hit differently. I’ve talked so much about how I feel about it, so now let’s get into it. Who knows, you might get hooked too.

Solo leveling starts with a young boy, Sung Jin Woo in a world where magic is normal. And magic casters (hunters) are ranked from A, B, C, D and S. With S being the strongest and D the weakest rank, which is where Jing Woo finds himself. Being at the bottom chain was literally hell considering the lack of jobs, low payments and being prone to death when sent out missions.

As if being ranked amongst the lowest wasn’t unfortunate enough, Jinwoo was sent out a mission to clear out a supposedly D ranked dungeon (lowest rank dungeon), which eventually turned out to be an S rank dunge (the strongest dungeon). This meant even the strongest of other ranks would find it life threatening to find themselves there. Things quickly went out of control when Jin woo and his team members encountered a being called the statue of god. Jinwoo had to sacrifice his life to save his teammates to escape.

After the incident, Jin Woo was reawakened and gained immense magical abilities. His power growth had a leveling system which was prepared to enable him master the best of his new found abilities. His new ability became the talk of the town because of how fast he grew from just being a weakling at the bottom food chain to being the one everybody looked up to as the last resort in an intense and gruesome battle.

One of my favorite characters was Yoo Jinho. Jin woo’s right hand man. He kind of reminded me of Batman, because his super power was being filthy rich. I loved how he wasn’t arrogant despite being born into wealth and always tried to be courageous in his own way. Despite his weakness, he never ran even in the toughest of situations and always stood by Jinwoo. His loyalty was quite admirable and he added the funny balance to the story.

I kind of found it a bit annoying that some interesting part from the manga, some actions were omitted from the anime. Like some fight scenes during Jinwoo’s training which I really anticipated. Also some scenes were just overhyped and dramatic.
Reading the manga before watching the anime makes one expect too much especially in those fight scenes. And then after watching, you get a little disappointed.

If it took about six months to a year before releasing not up to 20 episodes, I just wonder how long it’ll take to release the entire seasons. I get that the delay is meant to be a cliff hanger but because of how long it’s taking, I might just loose interest.

It’s a really good watch, overall I’d rate it a 7.5. If you’re a fan of Isekai anime, you’ll definitely love this one.
I honestly don’t regret watching despite the little flaws.
Have you seen Solo Leveling? What do you think of it?
