Hello everyone, fellow anime fans. Today, I'm here with a powerful review, because the time has finally come to talk a bit about Dragon Ball Daima. Now that this anime has finished, I have to say I ended up conflicted... brutally conflicted. I feel like I have two personalities fighting inside me. On one hand, there's the fan, the lifelong fan, the one who gets goosebumps seeing a Kamehameha, the one whose inner child is screaming like crazy. But on the other hand... there's the veteran fan, the one who's been with this for decades, the one who obsesses over the lore. That part of me... I don't know, it's like it's in a corner, rocking back and forth, wondering, "what the hell just happened?". Okay, let's start from the beginning. Remember when they announced Daima? The big promise, what they sold to all of us to keep us calm, was that the one and only Akira Toriyama was involved; this was his story. Of course, we all breathed a sigh of relief, right?
Because for years, YEARS, the perfect excuse for everything that didn't sit right with us about Dragon Ball GT was: "Well, Toriyama didn't have a hand in it." It was our easy way out. We blamed that for Goku being turned into a kid again, for that incredibly boring search for the Dragon Balls across the universe... it was all because the master was missing. So, what does Toriyama himself do in his grand return to an original anime? He brings back the most hated ideas from GT! Literally, I'm not kidding... the very first thing that happens: BOOM! Goku is a kid. Not just him, EVERYONE!
And the plot? To travel across the universe—well, to the Makai, the Demon Realm, which is basically the same thing—to find something to fix the mess. I mean, it was a déjà vu, but one of those weird ones that leaves you thinking. Just imagine this: it's as if your favorite chef, the one with three Michelin stars for an incredible dish, suddenly opens a new restaurant and serves you the burnt, bad-tasting hamburger that everyone criticizes the place on the corner for, but he tells you: "No, don't worry, this time I'm making it, so it's going to be good." Honestly, I had my doubts from the start, but I wanted to believe, I wanted to have faith.
Hola a todos, amigos fanáticos del anime, hoy les vengo a traer una reseña potente, y es que ya llegó el momento de hablar un poquito de Dragon Ball Daima, cuando termine este anime, debo decir que acabe en un conflicto... pero un conflicto brutal, siento que tengo dos personalidades peleando aquí dentro.. por un lado, está el fan, el de toda la vida, el que ve un Kamehameha y se le pone la piel de gallina, el que tiene al niño interior gritando como loco.. pero por el otro lado... está el fan veterano, el que lleva décadas con esto, el que se clava con el lore, esa parte de mí... no sé, está como en una esquinita, meciéndose, preguntándose "¿qué carajos acaba de pasar?". A ver, empecemos por el principio. ¿Se acuerdan cuando anunciaron Daima? La gran promesa, lo que nos vendieron a todos para que estuviéramos tranquilos, era que el mismísimo Akira Toriyama estaba metido, esta era su historia.. claro, todos respiramos tranquilos, ¿o no?
Porque por años, AÑOS, la excusa perfecta para todo lo que no nos cuadraba de Dragon Ball GT era: «Bueno, es que ahí Toriyama no metió mano». Era nuestra salida fácil, le echábamos la culpa a eso de que convirtieran a Goku en niño otra vez, de esa búsqueda aburridísima de las Esferas del Dragón por el universo... todo era porque faltaba el maestro, entonces, ¿qué hace el mismísimo Toriyama en su gran regreso a un anime original? ¡Pues trae de vuelta las ideas más odiadas de GT! Literal, no es chiste.. lo primerito que pasa: ¡PUM! Goku es un niño, no solo él, ¡TODO EL MUNDO!
Y la trama? Irse de viaje por el universo —bueno, al Makai, el Reino de los Demonios, que es básicamente lo mismo— a buscar algo para arreglar el desmadre.. o sea, fue un déjà vu pero de los raros, de los que te dejan pensando.. es que, imagínense esto: es como si tu chef favorito, el que tiene tres estrellas Michelin por un platillo increíble, de repente abre un restaurante nuevo y te sirve la hamburguesa quemada y con mal sabor por la que todo el mundo critica al local de la esquina, pero te dice: «No, tranquilo, es que esta vez la preparo yo, así que va a estar buena».. yo, la verdad, le tenía mis dudas desde el inicio, pero quise creer, quise tener fe.
And look, to be fair, in one thing, one VERY important thing, they absolutely nailed it: the presentation. My god, the animation... this is, and I say this without fear of being wrong, one of the best-looking Dragon Ball series in history. The art direction is insane, the landscapes of the Demon Realm are super creative, full of color, and the fights... oh, the fights. Finally, we finally have real choreography! Remember in Super how many fights were just little lights and colorful auras clashing, and the characters barely moved? Well, Daima brought back that impactful, well-thought-out, and well-animated hand-to-hand combat that blew our minds in Z. There are moments that look like a movie, I swear. And the sound! They brought back the classic sound effects, the punches, when they charge their ki... it's pure nostalgia, straight to the veins. Watching the fights, I was that excited kid again, glued to the screen, mesmerized. Truly, it's a gem for the eyes and ears. But... and here comes the big BUT, no matter how beautiful the wrapping is and how epic it gets at times, at some point you have to look at the story. And there, my friends... that's where it all goes to hell.
The lore changes got out of hand; it's a total mess. Let's take the Kaioshin, for example. For years, the official story, the one Toriyama himself told us, was that they were a divine race born from the golden fruit of a cosmic tree; it was a whole mythology. Well, Daima takes all of that and throws it in the trash. Now it turns out they are a race from the Demon Realm called the "Glind" and they just... come out of normal trees, just like that. Look, yes, to be honest, this change forcefully patches a couple of plot holes, like Zamasu being an apprentice or how the Elder Kai fit in. If they're just a race that is given a title, it makes a bit more sense, okay, I'll grant them that. But did you have to completely change their origin and mix them with demons to fix that? It feels like trying to kill a fly with a bazooka, like inventing a super convoluted new explanation just to cover up a little old hole that almost nobody cared about.
Y a ver, hay que ser justos, en una cosa, una cosa MUY importante, la rompieron por completo.. la presentación.. dios santo, la animación, esta es, y se los digo sin miedo a equivocarme, una de las series de Dragon Ball que mejor se ve en la historia.. la dirección de arte es una locura, los paisajes del Reino de los Demonios son súper creativos, llenos de color, y las peleas... ay, las peleas, por fin, ¡por fin tenemos coreografías de verdad! ¿Se acuerdan en Super que muchas peleas eran nomás lucecitas y auras de colores chocando, y los personajes apenas se movían? Pues Daima trajo de vuelta ese combate cuerpo a cuerpo, con impacto, bien pensado y animado que nos volaba la cabeza en Z, hay momentos que parecen una película, se los juro. ¡Y el sonido! ¡Trajeron de vuelta los soniditos clásicos, los golpes, cuando cargan el ki... es nostalgia pura, directa a la vena.. viendo las peleas, yo era otra vez ese niño emocionado, pegado a la pantalla, hipnotizado, de verdad, es una joya para los ojos y los oídos. Pero... y aquí viene el PERO en mayúsculas, por más bonita que sea la envoltura y lo épico que se pone a veces, en algún momento tienes que ver la historia.. ahí, amigos... ahí es donde todo se va al diablo.
Los cambios al lore se fueron de las manos, es un descontrol, agarremos a los Kaioshin, por ejemplo.. durante años, la historia oficial, la que nos contó el mismo Toriyama, era que eran una raza divina que nacía del fruto dorado de un árbol cósmico, era toda una mitología.. pues Daima agarra todo eso y lo tira a la basura, ahora resulta que son una raza del Reino de los Demonios llamados los "Glind" y que simplemente... salen de árboles normales, como si nada. A ver, sí, siendo honesto, este cambio arregla a la fuerza un par de huecos en la trama, como lo de Zamasu siendo un aprendiz o cómo encajaba el Kaioshin anciano.. si solo son una raza a la que se le da un puesto, pues tiene un poquito más de sentido, ok, se lo concedo.. pero ¿había que cambiarles por completo el origen y mezclarlos con demonios para arreglar eso? Se siente como querer matar una mosca con una bazuca, como inventar una explicación súper enredada y nueva solo para tapar un agujerito viejo que a casi nadie le importaba.
And it gets worse, people. Just wait. Remember the whole deal with the Potara fusion? Look, in the Buu saga, they told us: the fusion with the earrings is permanent. Period. They only separated because they were inside Buu and the place was "weird"—that was the fan theory for years. Then Super comes along and changes the game: "No, you know what? It's only permanent for gods; for mortals, it lasts an hour." And okay, fine, that was the new canon. So, what do you think Daima does? It kicks Super right in the face! We see that Kibito Kai, who was still fused, isn't anymore. And how did they separate? Ah! Because they went inside Buu on purpose to separate! So Buu's body DID have something special to undo fusions. It's as if the people who wrote Super and the people who wrote Daima don't even talk to each other—worse, that they don't care, that they're just making it up as they go, and that... that just drives me crazy. But nothing, listen to me carefully, NOTHING compares to what they did to Super Saiyan 3. This, for me, was the straw that broke the camel's back, the worst thing Daima did, no question.
Look, I've always said that Super Saiyan 3, in terms of story, was the weakest of them all. It came out of nowhere, Goku learned it over in the Other World, it uses a ton of energy, and it never won a major fight. But, damn it, it was iconic. It looked brutal, and its first appearance was legendary. Well, Daima took that legendary transformation and turned it... into a meme. Vegeta gets it, but apparently he never used it... like when Beerus hit Bulma, was he... "saving energy"? Saving energy!? In a life-or-death fight? It strips away all the seriousness, all the weight the transformation had left, and how great that awakening was in the movie because we thought it was the highest he had reached up to that point. Although the design was cool, and I liked that the hair didn't fall back like with the others... I feel it was something very, very unnecessary.
Y la cosa se pone peor, gente. Espérense.. se acuerdan de todo el rollo con la fusión Potara? A ver, en la saga de Buu nos dijeron: la fusión con los aretes es para siempre.. punto. Que solo se separaron porque estaban dentro de Buu y el lugar era "raro", esa era la teoría de los fans por años, luego llega Super y nos cambia la jugada: "No, ¿saben qué? Solo es para siempre si son dioses, para los mortales dura una hora". Y ok, va, ese era el nuevo canon.. entonces, ¿qué creen que hace Daima? ¡Le da una patada en la cara a Super! Vemos que Kibito Kai, que seguía fusionado, ya no lo está. ¿Y cómo se separaron? ¡Ah! ¡Porque se metieron a propósito dentro de Buu para separarse! O sea que el cuerpo de Buu SÍ tenía algo especial para deshacer fusiones, es como si los que escribieron Super y los que escribieron Daima ni se hablaran, peor, que les da igual, que se lo van inventando sobre la marcha y eso... eso a mí me saca de quicio.. pero nada, escúchenme bien, NADA se compara con lo que le hicieron al Super Saiyan 3. Esto, para mí, fue la gota que derramó el vaso, lo peor que hizo Daima, sin discusión..
Miren, yo siempre he dicho que el Super Saiyan 3, en cuanto a historia, era la más flojita de todas, salió de la nada, Goku la aprendió por allá en el otro mundo, gasta un montón de energía y nunca ganó una pelea importante.. pero, ¡joder!, era icónica. Se veía brutal y su primera aparición fue legendaria, pues Daima agarró esa transformación legendaria y la convirtió... en un meme. Vegeta la consigue, pero al parecer nunca la usó.. como como cuando Beerus le pegó a Bulma, acaso estaba... "ahorrando energía"?. ¿¡Ahorrando energía!? ¿En una pelea de vida o muerte? Le quita toda la seriedad, todo el peso que le quedaba a la transformación, y lo genial que fue ese despertar en la película, porque pensábamos que era lo más alto que había llegado, hasta ese momento.. aunque el diseño fue genial, y me gustó que el cabello no cayera hacia atrás como con los demás.. siento que fue algo muy, muy innecesario.
I've seen people online throwing hate about how Vegeta behaved, but I think it shows his complete evolution. The old Vegeta, the prince obsessed with his pride, would have died right there out of pure ego. But this Vegeta, who is now a husband and a father, understands there are things more important than a Saiyan's pride. He chooses his family, his happiness. It's the perfect contrast to the Goku from Super, who would risk entire universes just for a good fight. And well... talking a bit about the final "surprise" transformation, which I think has little surprise to it... I didn't like it, and honestly, when I saw it, I got frustrated. I felt they just repeated themselves once again. There were ways to make everything more unique, different, to break the mold. But I feel they preferred to please the GT fans and just threw fanservice everywhere, without much explanation. They just gave us something to entertain us, but without a soul. And so, with all these crazy changes and moments like these, you would think that in the end, they would just wipe the slate clean, the usual easy way out. Well, no.
The series ends, and everything, EVERYTHING that happened, is now apparently 100% canon. There's no amnesia, it wasn't a dream, nothing. The new lore, the contradictions, Vegeta's Super Saiyan 3, Goku's "new" transformation... all of it is now officially part of the story between the Buu saga and Super. And that... that is the final stab in the back. Because it doesn't add to the story; it shatters what we already had. Everything that was built in Super now seems to be built on nothing. The continuity is a disaster, a TOTAL disaster. In the end, was it worth it? For me, no. Daima feels like a beautiful, expensive sports car, but with an engine that fails constantly.
The fights are insane, a 10/10 experience... but they are there to serve a story that feels weak, inconsistent, and disrespectful to everything that came before. It's a series of pure extremes: incredibly good moments and terribly bad ones. That's why my final score for Dragon Ball Daima is a 6/10. And believe me, that 6 is almost purely for the visuals. It's like a 9 in animation and a 3 in story and coherence, if we average it out. The spectacle is so good that it manages to drag the rest along and save it from failing, but by the skin of its teeth. I had moments of pure excitement, really, but then I'd spend hours shaking my head, unable to believe it. I'm glad I watched it for the visuals, but as a lifelong fan, I felt more disappointed than anything else. And well, that's it for today's review... take care, everyone! Byebye!
Vi a gente en internet tirando hate por como se comportaba Vegeta, pero creo que se va mostrando toda su evolución.. el Vegeta de antes, el príncipe obsesionado con su orgullo, se hubiera muerto ahí nomás por puro ego, pero este Vegeta, el que ya es esposo y papá, entiende que hay cosas más importantes que el orgullo de un saiyajin.. elige a su familia, su felicidad, es el contraste perfecto con el Goku de Super, que arriesgaría universos enteros solo por una buena pelea, y bueno.. hablando un poco de la última transformación "sorpresa" que creo que sorpresa tiene poco.. pues no me gustó, y la verdad cuando lo ví, me frustro.. sentí que solo se repitieron una vez más, había maneras de volver todo más único, diferente, salirse del molde.. pero siento que prefirieron complacer a los fanáticos de GT, y solo aventaron fanservice por todos lados, sin mucha explicación, solo nos dieron algo para entretenernos, pero sin alma.. y entonces, con todos estos cambios locos y momentos así, uno pensaría que al final iban a hacer un borrón y cuenta nueva, la salida fácil de siempre.. pues no.
La serie se acaba, y todo, TODO lo que pasó, es ahora 100% canon, al parecer, no hay amnesia, no fue un sueño, nada.. el nuevo lore, las contradicciones, el Super Saiyan 3 de Vegeta, la "nueva" transformación de Goku.. todo eso ahora es oficialmente parte de la historia entre la saga de Buu y Super. Y esa... esa es la puñalada final, porque no es que le sume a la historia; es que hace pedazos lo que ya teníamos, todo lo que se construyó en Super ahora parece que está hecho sobre nada, la continuidad es un desastre, un desastre TOTAL.
Al final, ¿valió la pena? Para mí, no. Daima se siente como un coche deportivo precioso, carísimo, pero con un motor que falla a cada rato, las peleas son una locura, una experiencia de 10 de 10.. pero están ahí para servirle a una historia que se siente floja, inconsistente y que le falta el respeto a todo lo anterior, es una serie de puros extremos: momentos increíblemente buenos y otros terriblemente malos.. por eso, mi calificación final para Dragon Ball Daima es un 6/10. Y créanme, ese 6 es casi puro por lo visual, es como un 9 en animación y un 3 en historia y coherencia, si le hacemos un promedio.. el espectáculo es tan bueno que logra arrastrar al resto y salvarla de reprobar, pero por los pelos.. tuve momentos de emoción pura, de verdad, pero luego pasaba horas negando con la cabeza, sin poder creerlo, me alegro de haberla visto por lo visual, pero como fan de toda la vida, me sentí más decepcionado que otra cosa.. y bueno, hasta aquí la reseña de hoy.. cuidense mucho!
