Spirited Away is in my opinion the greatest exponent of Japanese animation and one of the most authentic and original films of all time. With a mixture of Japanese folklore adapted to our times, we can embark on an unprecedented journey, loaded with a strong symbolism of an artistic imagination that goes beyond what many can imagine.
In the West we have Alice in Wonderland, another work full of imagination and from which there are slight influences. However, in Spirited Away the underlying context may be even deeper, being able to be valued by children and adults alike and with strong spiritual and philosophical potential. Freedom is perhaps by definition what is sought in this film, either in the script or from a conceptual and artistic aspect, the authors of this work did not skimp on using their imagination to create a unique Universe in the world of animation.
Los viajes de Chihiro son bajo mi opinión el máximo exponente de la animación japonesa y una de las películas más auténticas y originales de todos los tiempos. Con una mezcla entre folclore japonés adaptada a nuestros tiempos nos podremos adentrar en un viaje sin precedentes, cargado de un fuerte simbolismo propio de una imaginación artística que va más allá de lo que muchos puedan imaginar.
En occidente tenemos a Alicia en el país de las Maravillas otra obra cargada de imaginación y de la cual haya leves influencias. Sin embargo, en el viaje de Chihiro el contexto que subyace quizás sea aún más profundo pudiendo ser valorada por niños y adultos de igual manera y con un fuerte potencial espiritual y filosófico. La libertad es quizás por definición lo que se busca en esta película, bien sea en el guion a desde un aspecto conceptual y artístico, los autores de esta obra no escatimaron en usar su imaginación para crear un Universo único en el mundo de la animación.
The plot is about a girl and her family who are moving, Chihiro dislikes the place while her parents decide to tour the town finding an almost uninhabited place. They begin to rummage through the place and then the father decides to go eat while Chihiro finds a young man named Haku who tells him that he must get away from that place with his parents. Night falls and the girl goes to the restaurant where her parents were discovering that they have become pigs and here the adventure begins.
Chihiro enters a place where nothing is similar to what we are used to, unlikely beings surround the place, some humanoids and beings of nature, many of them reluctantly looking at the human who has come to this place. Soon Chihiro asks permission to work in a spa and many strange situations start to happen.
El argumento va de una niña y su familia que se están mudando, a Chihiro le desagrada el lugar mientras que sus padres deciden recorrer el pueblo topándose con un lugar casi deshabitado. Empiezan a hurgar entre el lugar y luego el padre decide ir a comer mientras Chihiro se consigue con un joven llamado Haku que le dice que debe alejarse de ese lugar con sus padres. Cae la noche y la niña va al restaurant donde estaban sus padres descubriendo que se han vuelto unos cerdos y aquí empieza la aventura.
Chihiro se adentra en un lugar donde nada es parecido a lo que estamos acostumbrados, seres inverosímiles rodean el lugar, algunos humanoides y entes de la naturaleza, muchos de ellos viendo con reticencia a la humana que ha llegado a este lugar. Pronto Chihiro pide permiso para trabajar en un balneario y muchas situaciones extrañas empiezan a suceder.
The plot is linked with a surprising visual effect and it is not easy to explain without seeing the scenes of this animation, images and script are intrinsically related to each other making an exquisite fusion for our visual and intellectual pleasure.
There are many archetypes and symbols within the framework of this film that make us think excessively about Japanese culture, criticizing modern society that in turn tries to maintain customs at a time when the world is globalized. Chihiro represents the passage from childhood to adulthood, a complex transition that has been graphically created in a kind of allegory that subtly shows us the development of such a transition.
La trama está ligada con un efecto visual sorprendente y no es fácil de explicar sin ver las escenas de esta animación, imágenes y guion están intrínsecamente relacionados entre sí haciendo una fusión exquisita para nuestro placer visual e intelectual.
Hay muchos arquetipos y simbología dentro del marco de esta película que nos hacen pensar en exceso acerca de la cultura japonesa haciendo una crítica hacia la sociedad moderna que a su vez intenta mantener unas costumbres en un momento el que el mundo esta globalizado. Chihiro representa el paso de la niñez hacia la adultez, una transición compleja que se ha creado gráficamente en una especie de alegoría que sutilmente nos muestra el desarrollo de semejante transición.
Few works are like this and sometimes I think how far the human imagination can go to create something subtle and complex at the same time. This is an authentic work of art that shows us the true meaning of creation since the authors of this work can argue that they created a two-hour universe where the real is blurred creating a phantasmagoria entity but making a fable with the unreal.
Authors like Kafka did a job blurring reality, but of course this author did it in a much darker tone. In Spirited Away the unreality is not as personal as in Kafkaesque stories, but they do try to represent aspects of reality with fantasy, sending us a powerful message of spirituality and even criticism of global contamination.
Pocas obras son como esta y a veces pienso que tan lejos puede llegar la imaginación humana para crear algo sutil y complejo a la vez. Esto es una auténtica obra de arte que nos demuestra el verdadero significado de creación ya que los autores de esta obra pueden argüir que crearon un universo de dos horas donde lo real se desdibuja creando una entidad fantasmagoría pero haciendo una fábula con lo irreal.
Autores como Kafka hicieron un trabajo desdibujando la realidad pero claro este autor lo hacía en un tono mucho más oscuro. En los viajes de Chihiro la irrealidad no es tan personal como en las historias kafkianas pero si intentan representar con la fantasía aspectos de la realidad mandándonos un poderoso mensaje de espiritualidad e inclusive críticas hacia la contaminación global.
Among the awards won for this animation we can count on an oscar for the best animation in 2003 and the only anime that has achieved it so far, you can imagine the caliber of what this film represents not only in animation but in world cinematography .
Knowing some of the Japanese mythology to understand this film even more would be the ideal since there are many entities in this spectral journey that are used to create the plot as was the case of the Shinigami in Death Note.
Undoubtedly this is the best work of the Gihbli studio, both in animation, plot and soundtrack, which was made when this studio was in a critical situation in its economy but Spirited Away managed to recover the company by rescuing it from a possible bankruptcy, so we can also thank this film for the subsequent productions that the studio has done.
Entre los premios conseguidos por esta animación podemos contar con un oscar a la mejor animación en el 2003 y el único anime que lo ha conseguido hasta ahora, podrán imaginarse el calibre de lo que representa esta película no solo en la animación sino en la cinematografía mundial.
Conocer algo de la mitología japonesa para entender aún mas esta película sería lo ideal ya que hay muchas entidades en este viaje espectral que son utilizadas para crear el argumento como lo fue el caso de los Shinigamis en Death Note.
Sin duda esta es la mejor obra del estudio Gihbli, tanto en animación, argumento y banda sonora, la cual fue hecha cuando este estudio se encontraba en una situación crítica en su economía pero El viaje de Chihiro logro recuperar a la empresa rescatándola de una posible bancarrota, así que también podemos agradecerle a esta película las posteriores producciones que ha hecho el estudio.
