Sakasama no patema is a peculiar and somewhat extensive film with a duration of more than an hour and a half, the most interesting and attractive thing about this film is the context of the characters and the scenarios that can be created thanks to the premise of the story and the way they are animated.
The story of this film is quite strange and even changes one of the most basic concepts of humanity, gravity. In this adventure we have two cities or worlds, a group of people living in the depths of the earth in subway cities and tunnels, and another civilization that lives in a kind of enclosed city controlled by a kind of dictatorship or massive control system where everyone acts in a monotonous way and controlled by the leaders, it may remind a little to the story of the book “1984”.
The strange thing here will be that gravity works differently with the subway inhabitants so they can “fall” to the sky and with this lose their lives, for this reason they live below the surface to always have a “floor” that separates them from the sky and not fall towards it. All this is simply explained as an accident or phenomenon created by mankind itself and that caused many to be affected by this change in gravity.
The protagonists of this adventure will be Patema a young girl from the subway city who had a personal trauma when she lost her father who like her feels attraction to the surface and see the world outside the caves, For this reason she decides to venture always alone to try to reach the limits of what she knows and after being attacked by a person walking on the ceiling (the inhabitants of the surface) she ends up falling into the sky and coming out to the surface to be saved from continuing “falling” thanks to our second protagonist Age, a boy from the surface who is against all the order and control of society and seeks to reach the sky and be free.
As for the animation and visual scenes, the biggest attraction of this film will undoubtedly be the mental conflict that will cause you to see two people and several others at some points, as well as different objects being affected by gravity in different ways, makes you think which is really the floor and which is the ceiling, how they move or how things and objects will be, besides creating very entertaining and exciting moments as when Age and Patema realize that being together they can practically counteract each other's weight and manage to move, jump and practically float in the air for long distances.
The development of the story is quite good and manages to keep the interest, analyzing it in depth may have aspects or approaches to reality, as a government system that seeks to control and manipulate everything they know and believe the inhabitants, what they should think, how they should act and even including aspects of religion as a form of mass control, in the film that presents how those who have the gravity inverted and who fall to heaven are sinners and it is a divine punishment, this ideal is used to control people and allow them to stop or eliminate anyone who thinks differently making him pass for a sinner who deserves to be punished, in the end it is shown how everything was very different from what the leaders of the city intended to make believe in order to maintain their power.
Another interesting aspect of the film is the personality and attitude of the two protagonists, both Patema and Age have traumas in their youth that makes them want to leave behind everything they know to go in search of what they believe, but at the same time you can notice the great terror they have inside, although they do not allow this to block them or prevent them from doing what they want or what they feel is right.
Something that can not be seen with the naked eye, but after thinking about it is quite frightening is the situation that both protagonists live, I think that, although we are not all afraid of heights if we can feel some discomfort when approaching the edge of a great height, now imagine living in a reality that if you fall you will continue to do so without limits to even leave the planet, see that under your feet is all the sky and fall endlessly to certain death, no doubt something that would cause enough terror in everyone.

Algo peculiar en los animes y sus películas es como muchas veces no necesitan terminar de explicar las situaciones o trasfondo del mundo donde acontece toda la historia, algunas veces dejar estas cosas a la intriga forma parte del atractivo de la historia y cuando se basan en eventos o sucesos creados por la humanidad siempre es más llamativo. Sakasama no patema se trata de una película peculiar y algo extensa al contar con una duración de más de hora y media, lo más interesante y atractivo de esta película es el contexto de los personajes y los escenarios que se pueden crear gracias a la premisa de su historia y la forma de animarlos.
La historia de esta película es bastante extraña y hasta cambia uno de los conceptos más básicos de la humanidad, la gravedad. En esta aventura tenemos dos ciudad o mundos, un grupo de personas que viven en las profundidades de la tierra en tuéneles y ciudades subterráneas, y otra civilización que habita en una especie de ciudad encerrada y controlada por un tipo de dictadura o sistema de control masivo en donde todos actúan de forma monótona y controlada por los dirigentes, puede recordar un poco a la historia de libro “1984”.
Lo extraño aquí será que la gravedad funciona de forma diferente con los habitantes subterráneos por lo cual se pueden “caer” al cielo y con esto perder sus vidas, por este motivo viven bajo la superficie para siempre tener un “piso” que los separa del cielo y no caer hacia él. Todo esto simplemente se explica como un accidente o fenómeno creado por la propia humanidad y que hizo que muchos se vieran afectados por este cambio de gravedad.
Los protagonistas de esta aventura serán Patema una joven chica de la ciudad subterránea quien tuvo un trauma personal al perder a su padre quien al igual que ella siente atracción por la superficie y ver el mundo fuera de las cuevas, por este motivo decide aventurarse siempre en solitaria para tratar de llegar a los límites de lo que conoce y luego de haber sido atacada por una persona que caminaba por el techo (los habitantes de la superficie) termina cayendo al cielo y saliendo a la superficie para ser salvada de seguir “cayendo” gracias a nuestro segundo protagonista Age, un muchacho de la superficie quien está en contra de todo el orden y control de la sociedad y busca alcanzar el cielo y ser libre.
En cuanto a la animación y escenas visuales, el mayor atractivo de esta película sin dudas será el conflicto mental que te causará ver dos personas y varias otras en algunos momentos, así como diferentes objetos siendo afectador por la gravedad de diferente manera, te hace colocarte a pensar cual realmente es el suelo y cual el techo, como se mueven o como serán las cosas y objetos, además de crear momentos muy entretenidos y emocionantes como cuando Age y Patema se dan cuenta que estando juntos pueden prácticamente contrarrestar el peso del otro y lograr desplazarse, saltar y prácticamente flotar en el aire por largas distancias.
El desarrollo de la historia es bastante bueno y logra mantener el interés, analizándolo en profundidad puede tener aspectos o enfoques de la realidad, como un sistema de gobierno que busca controlar y manipular todo lo que conocen y creen los habitantes, lo que deben pensar, como deben actuar y hasta incluso incluyendo aspectos de religión como forma de control de masas, en la película que presenta como aquellos que tiene la gravedad invertida y que caen al cielo son pecadores y se trata de un castigo divino, se utiliza este ideal para poder controlar a las personas y permitirles detener o eliminar a todo aquel que piense diferente haciéndolo pasar por un pecador que merece ser castigado, al final se muestra como todo era muy diferente a lo que pretendían hacer creer los líderes de la ciudad para poder mantener su poder.
Otro aspecto interesante de la película es la personalidad y actitud de los dos protagonistas, tanto Patema como Age cuentan con traumas en su juventud que los hace querer dejar atrás todo lo conocido para ir en busca de lo que creen, pero al mismo tiempo se puede notar el gran terror que tienen en su interior, aunque no permiten que este los bloquee o impida hacer lo que desean o lo que sienten que es lo correcto.
Algo que no se puede apreciar a simple vista, pero luego de pensarlo es bastante aterrador es la situación que viven ambos protagonistas, creo que, aunque no todos tengamos miedo a las alturas si podemos sentir alguna incomodidad al acercarnos al borde de una gran altura, ahora imagina vivir en una realidad que si te caes lo seguirás haciendo sin límites hasta incluso salir del planeta, ver que bajo tus pies esta todo el cielo y caerás sin fin hasta una muerte segura, sin dudas algo que causaría bastante terror en todos.

Me encantó esta película. Recuerdo haberla visto el año pasado en busca de películas buenas para un Top y me topé de la nada con su premisa y me llamó mucho la atención lo única y diferente que es a muchas otras. La historia me encantó, al igual que los personajes y su animación.

Me parece fascinante cómo plantea el concepto de la gravedad de manera tan creativa, invirtiendo por completo la perspectiva que tenemos del mundo. Esa idea de tener un "piso" que separa a los habitantes subterráneos del "cielo" infinito, donde una caída significa la muerte, genera una tensión y un conflicto mental realmente cautivador. en verdad el tema de los pecadores se usa como trasfondo para mostrar por que la sociedad de arriba es tan dictarorial y ciega a lo que dicen sus lideres y todos se dejan guiar como marionetas, al final todo resulta super inesperado y atrae mucho la historia :D
