This story takes place at a dueling academy founded by Seto Kaiba. We play the role of a boy named Judai Yūki, an extrovert who is passionate about dueling.
Esta historia trascurre en una academia de duelos fundada por Seto Kaiba. Donde protagonizamos a un chico llamado Judai Yūki. Alguien extrovertido que le apasionan los duelos.
It all begins when Judai arrives late for registration. As punishment, he had to face Vellian Crowler, an eminent figure within the academy. To pass the entrance exam, he had to defeat him. And against all odds, he succeeded. A newly arrived rookie managed to defeat a highly respected, experienced teacher. Thus begins the adventure.

The first thing I liked about this spin-off was its student setting. I liked that the plot would start as a competition between students to climb the ranks and gain prestige. And not that it would start with duels to the death where the characters could lose their souls at any minute 😅
Lo primero que me agradó de este spin-off es su entorno estudiantil. Me gustó que su trama iniciaría como una competencia entre alumnos para subir de rango y prestigio. Y no que empezara con duelos a muerte donde los personajes podían perder el alma en cualquier minuto 😅
Another thing I liked from the start was the opening. And forgive me, but I think it's better than the original. It's more intense and lively. I really like the rhythm.
Otra cosa que me agradó desde el principio fue su opening. Y que me perdonen, pero a mi me parece mejor al del original. Es más intenso y movido. Me gusta mucho su ritmo.
What I didn't like so much was the fact that some things were directly copied from the previous series. For example, they replicated the Egyptian gods. Now they are sacred beasts. The protagonist once again has a spirit inside him. Before it was Pharaoh Atem, now it's Yubel. This isn't something that bothers me too much, but I feel like it was unnecessary and excessive.
Lo que tal vez no me gustó tanto fue el hecho de que algunas cosas fueron directamente una copia de la serie anterior. Por ejemplo, replicaron lo de los dioses egipcios. Ahora son bestias sagradas. El protagonista vuelve a tener un espíritu en su interior. Antes fue el faraón Atem, ahora es Yubel. Esto no es algo que me moleste demasiado, pero siento que fue innecesario y estuvo de más.
You're going to hate me for saying this, but I really liked the monster designs. I even think they're better than the ones in the original Yu-Gi-Oh. Simply because, in general, they're all good. I really loved the protagonist's Elemental Heroes and Zane's Cyber Dragons. I remember trying to build an Elemental Hero deck a few years ago, but I realized that outside of the series, they weren't as strong as they seemed. 🤣
Me van a odiar por decir esto, pero me gustaron mucho los diseños de los monstruos. Incluso llego a pensar que son mejores que los del Yu-Gi-Oh original. Simplemente por el hecho que en general, son todos buenos. A mí me encantaban mucho los Héroes elementales del protagonista y los ciber dragones de Zane. Recuerdo que hace unos años intenté armar una baraja de Héroes Elementales, pero entendí que fuera de la serie no eran tan fuertes como parecía. 🤣
What I found curious is that the series starts one way and ends completely differently. At the beginning, it's all friendly, positive, and has a student storyline. At the end, everything becomes dark, scary, and gloomy. With a storyline that's not exactly child-friendly, haha. That's why I understand that they never aired the last season, since it wasn't for children. Beyond the curiosity, I liked that 180° turn.
Lo que me pareció curioso es que la serie empieza de una manera y termia, de otra totalmente distinta. Al inicio es todos simpático, positivo y con una trama estudiantil. Al final todo se vuelve oscuro, tenebroso y sombrío. Con una trama no muy infantil que digamos jaja. Por eso tengo entendido que nunca emitieron la última temporada, ya que no era para niños. Más allá de lo curioso, me gustó ese giro de 180°.
In conclusion, Yu-Gi-Oh GX is a great successor to the original series. Some might say it's worse or better, but we should all agree that it's very worthy. Personally, I recommend it to anyone who was left wanting to see more of Yu-Gi-Oh.

The same thing happened to me with the Elemental Heroes. I thought they were great in the series, but ultimately, they just didn't measure up, haha. You're absolutely right, although the monster designs were actually pretty cool. And yes, it's very interesting how the series goes from being something quite simple to something dark and serious. That 180° turn was unexpected, but I think it gives it a distinctive touch. Great review! It's a secuel worth watching.
The Elemental Heroes was one of the biggest disappointments of my adolescence xd.
They were very daring to take the series to such a dark and gloomy place. I liked that it wasn't so childish.

Yep, it was a surprise how things turned from dark to darker the closer the last season came. I never managed to see it completely, just bits and clips, still even from those it was a quite disorienting how the MC "matured" or developed, was it inner peace or adulthood progression hitting him in the head, not sure. Still, it is indeed a great successor to the first Yu-Gi-Oh, personally the next series that went after was fun, but not so much as the 2 before, the new summoning was WAY to confusing and how they implemented it the connection to the plot and lore did not help.
That's true, the main character underwent a somewhat sudden change at one point. He became a little more serious and calm. That confused me a little.
As for the 5ds version, I haven't seen it. They say it's also good, but I never got around to watching it.
