The protagonists are so standardized that they become very simplistic and predictable, there is no development in personalities, they end up together with almost nothing in common with each other, no connection, plus the terrible reliance on awkward situations or forced accidents to generate "romantic tension", instead of allowing feelings to develop organically and believably, as real people would.
