I've read the novel but never finished and have since continued to the manhwa, I'd comment that Hamel or Eugene seemed to be the most normal and relatable person in the hero party, they others seemed like tropes, but him, when you look at his backstory and character, he is just a regular guy doing the best he can, has flaws, not perfect, making mistakes and making up and growing from them. This fact was also noted by the some characters in the story.

It's something that fits his personality. It seems like a normal friendship, with its ups and downs, but not enough to cause a rift like the one we're seeing. There's something hidden, and reasons to think that Vermouth is behind Hamel's reincarnation.
