A few days ago, memories came flooding back of a time when I was a child, a time I associate mainly with school, but also with moments of solitude. It was a time when we had what we called ‘letter cards’. They were sheets of paper, some lined and others unlined; some came with their own coloured envelope, whilst others were plain white, but they all featured some sort of pattern or design, and there was a huge variety.
You could buy them and they came in a bag, all the same, but the girls at school had them too and we could swap them. It was a bit like the sticker-collecting craze, but I think this was just for girls.
As I said, the motifs varied; many depicted girls as in a drawing, and there were animals, angels and fantasy scenes. My friend Claudia and I were talking about them a few days ago, and it brought back memories.
In this design, and perhaps in another one later on, I wanted to bring back this memory but do it digitally. I loved the experience.

Hace varios días vinieron a mi mente recuerdos de una época, cuando era niña, que relaciono más con la escuela, pero también con mis momentos de soledad. Una época en que existían los que llamábamos, las hojas de carta. Eran hojas, algunas con renglones y otras no, algunas traían su sobre respectivo de color o a veces era blanco, pero todas tenían algún motivo o diseño y había mucha variedad.
Se podían comprar y venían varías en una misma bolsa, todas iguales, pero las niñas en la escuela también tenían de esas cartas y se podían intercambiar. Era como la época de las figuritas, pero creo que esto era sólo para niñas.
Como les digo los motivos variaban, muchas representaban a niñas como en un dibujo, había de animales, ángeles, fantasía. Y con mi amiga Claudia las mencionamos hace unos días, me trajo recuerdos.
En este diseño y tal vez en algún otro más adelante, quise traer este recuerdo, pero hacerlo digitalmente. Me encantó la experiencia.

Design process
The design was created entirely in Photoshop CS6 without the use of AI, using 10 royalty-free images spread across 20 layers.
On a white layer, I placed the first watercolour image, over which I added four layers of the lined sheet, in different positions and with a drop shadow layer style to separate them from the background. On top of two of these layers and beneath the other two, I placed the first image of flowers with the darker colour blend, enhancing the outlines with an edge filter.
Then, on top of this, I placed the second watercolour image using a soft light blend, and from the image of the green leaves I selected, copied and pasted some of them into the design, placing them on the right-hand side using a darker colour blend. I placed the second image of flowers on the other side of the design, in two layers, using the ‘Darken’ and ‘Normal’ blending modes, but for the latter I left only the part with the flowers.
Beneath this image of white flowers, I worked on the two images of the drawings featuring children with cats, using the ‘Darken’ blending mode and erasing certain parts so they matched the edges of the leaves with lines. With the image of the girl, I created two layers using underexpose and normal colour blends. I applied the added edges filter to all of them, as well as to the image of butterflies using the darken blend.
The animation is done completely in After Effects, working on the opacity of each layer and adding lights in the form of clouds for better contrast.

Proceso del diseño
El diseño está realizado completamente en el programa Photoshop CS6 sin uso de IA con 10 imágenes sin derechos de autor distribuidas en 20 capas.
Sobre una capa blanca dispuse la imagen de la primera acuarela sobre la cual puse en cuatro capas la hoja con renglones, en distintas posiciones y con un estil de capa de sombra paralela para separarlas del fondo. Sobre dos de estas capas y debajo de las otras dos puse la primera imagen de flores con la fusión de color más oscuro, realzando los contornos con un filtro de bordes añadidos.
Luego sobre lo anterior puse la segunda imagen de acuarelas con la fusión de luz suave y de la imagen de las hojas verdes fui seleccionando, copiando y pegando algunas de ellas en el diseño, colocándolas en el sector derecho del mismo con la fusión de color más oscuro. La segunda imagen de flores la coloqué al otro lado del diseño, en dos capas, con fusiones de color más oscuro y normal, pero de esta última dejé sólo la parte de las flores.
Debajo de esta imagen de las flores blancas trabajé las dos imágenes de los dibujos donde hay niños con gatos, con la fusión de color más oscuro y borrando ciertas partes para que coincidan con los bordes de las hojas con renglones. Con la imagen de la niña hice dos capas con fusiones de subexponer color y normal. En todas ellas puse el filtro de bordes añadidos, como así también en la imagen de mariposas usando la fusión oscurecer.
La animación está realizada completamente en After Effects, trabajando la opacidad de cada capa y agregando luces en forma de nubes para un mejor contraste.

Era algo muy de chicas jajaja las intercambiábamos en la escuela y así todas teníamos cartas distintas. Fui a un colegio sólo de mujeres, por lo que todas estábamos con el mismo tema jajaja
Pero el otro día con mi amiga, aunque no fuimos a la misma escuela, ni vivíamos en la misma ciudad, recordábamos esa época.
