Hello~ did anybody miss me~? I doubt XD but I’m back from a bit of a writing slump. I was pretty focused on sketching and rendering these days that I forgot I also had to write sometimes.

You know what that means! It’s officially inktober!!!!! I’m definitely happy to be starting the art month off with a drawing I worked really hard on OwO
For the first day of inktober, the prompt word is: Gargoyle
This is my take on the prompt along with its progression shots from inking to rendering OwO
As you can see, I think I went a little overboard with the black ink on some parts, but I definitely tried to make up for it with texture and with white gel ink XD
Ahh yes, what would I be without my white ink to act as a corrector. Anyways, I was told by someone that the head was a little off and I think it’s because I accidentally elongated it in the first layer of pen ink XD So I hoped shading it in nicely would sort of make up for it, but I guess I was wrong on that part because it’s still really noticeable, and even I noticed it but I still struggle to correct things that I’ve already inked in (heavily)
I was actually excited about this prompt because I love gargoyles! Although they were made famous through old architecture, they aren’t just there for design.
Gargoyles are stone statues often found atop buildings. Originally, they were called ”Grotesques” because… well, they often looked grotesque and unsettling but that is what they believed warded off evil spirits. So you have your protectors right there. They come in all shapes and sizes and they even vary in appearance per country. They’re a fascinating decoration to me.
Aside from warding off evil, they actually serve as a gutter system. A way to redirect rainwater. Gargoyle actually came from the french word “garguille”, which meant “throat” or “gullet”. That’s mainly why gargoyles are often seen as just heads with their mouths open wide. And then there’s the fact that gargoyles are said to make gurgling sounds when it rains, so really, there’s a few name origins for gargoyles that contribute to its name. Sadly, I’m no archeologist or architect so I have no idea how to go into detail with gargoyles. I just think they’re cool UwU so I strived to make a really cool render of one.
Anyways, that’s all from me for today! Happy first day of inktober! Happy HPUD! and happy world coffee day!!!!!!!
Make sure you guys get the coffee you definitely deserve today!!!
Until tomorrow when I write about my day 2 of inktober XD
