Cosmic Fish

I was recently given a really incredible opportunity from @juliakponsford and the team at GrowYourBase to promote @NFTShowroom to the masses! We minted a whopping 550 of the following artwork which will be distributed to the lucky GYB subscribers!

I'm not sure, but 550 might be a record minting number on NFTShowroom so far. :-)

Behold, the Cosmic Fish

Invasion

I recently came across an article about a fisherman who caught a giant goldfish from a lake. Seemed absurd and fantastical. It turns out in real life, that this is actually not uncommon, and can be devastating to local habitats. It comes from people dumping their unwanted goldfish into a river or lake, in which the goldfish doesn't have any predators. They'll feed on other fish eggs, younger fish, and aquatic plants the native fish rely on to live. If able to breed, they are invasive, and can multiply to the hundreds of thousands.

Just this last fall, I found one of the nearby lakes in my area has removed up around 50,000 goldfish from a small lake. That's pretty nuts!

Left to the Galaxy

So, my mind wandered from there, "What if someone ejected an unwanted fish into space and it lived for years?". And thus, this illustration was born.

A lone astronaut, perhaps the goldfish's now-adult owner, gazing upon the monstrosity they brought into existence. Maybe the fish started on a diet of debris and dust. If unprevented, it's likely that it could someday feed on planets and stars.

Creation

I started working on this illustration in Procreate in my usual comic illustration workflow. Unlike most of my previous submissions to NFTShowroom, I animated the results in AfterEffects. Admittedly, this is the first time I've ever used AfterEffects and surprisingly, I caught on pretty quickly. I'm very familiar with Premiere and most other Adobe products, however, so that definitely gave me a leg-up on it's functionality.

10/10 would recommend. I think I'm hooked and I'm looking forward to animating more future artwork!

I love this work and I'm really happy to see you dive into making something beautiful and meaningful for this partnership~ you do some wonderful takes on the "emptiness" of space.
thank you, we appreciate you! 🖤

Gah, thanks Crim! Been super fun getting to know you all and also being a part of Alien Art, NFTShowroom... Hive in general!

That fish is going places!

I like the movement on the gif. Fun little effect there. I have not made a moving gif piece before, but would be worth it.

Thanks! Yeah, it was definitely a fun little experiment. Looking forward to trying it again soon!

Beautiful!

love it! :)

@tipu curate

Looks really awesome! Do you do any simple commission work?

Hey, thanks! Maybe I will later on. Right now I'm trying to wrap up a couple personal projects. :-)

Very cool!!

I found this absolutely fascinating... a journey between real ecological problems and the potential for that problem to become a galactic issue if left unchecked long enough ... great work!

¡Hola!
