Anyway, I am almost doing this post to illustrate to a very esteemed person in the community through this drawing the application of an essential tool for any draftsman, such as the value key.
With this prelude, I enter the work process.
Como siempre, lo primero que hago es elegir un tema para realizar el trabajo, ya sea por inspiración o por pura mecánica creativa. En este caso me inspiré en una pared de una vivienda en ruinas, descarnada y enmohecida por el paso del tiempo, agrietada y muy expresiva, que además tiene una puerta semidestruida y que forma un hueco profundo hacia el interior de la vivienda.
As always, the first thing I do is to choose a theme for the work, either by inspiration or by pure creative mechanics. In this case I was inspired by a wall of a house in ruins, stark and moldy by the passage of time, cracked and very expressive, which also has a semi-destroyed door and that forms a deep hole into the interior of the house.
Cómo segundo paso, elijo los materiales a utilizar. Me proveo de lápices HB, 6B y lápiz carboncillo. Cada uno tendrá su función durante el proceso de trabajo. También tomo una hoja de papel tipo carta y otra de menor calidad.
As a second step, I choose the materials to use. I get HB pencils, 6B pencils and charcoal pencils. Each one will have its function during the work process. I also take a sheet of letter paper and another one of lesser quality.
Ahora trazo un breve bosquejo de toda la composición, grosso modo ubicando los elementos más importantes y distribuyendo todo en el espacio, respetando las proporciones.
Now I draw a brief sketch of the whole composition, roughly placing the most important elements and distributing everything in space, respecting the proportions.
Pero como la pared es irregular y por pedazos muestra la estructura interior y otros relieves, para no dibujar esto a punta de lápiz, utilizó el fácil método de Frotach, que ya explique en un post anterior. Para ello uso una plancha de hierro oxidada y con diferentes tipos de texturas en la superficie.
But as the wall is irregular and in pieces shows the interior structure and other reliefs, in order not to draw this with a pencil point, I used the easy Frotach method, which I explained in a previous post. For this I use a rusty iron plate with different types of textures on the surface.

Para la clave media y alta utilizó el lápiz HB y para la baja o más profunda el 6B. Las texturas más profundas de la pared quedan en una clave media hacia la baja. También para obtener distintas texturas cambió la hoja de lugar sobre la placa de hierro.
For the medium and high key he used the HB pencil and for the low or deeper key he used the 6B pencil. The deepest textures of the wall are in a medium to low key. Also to obtain different textures he changed the sheet of paper over the iron plate.
Con este método del frotach soluciono las áreas de las paredes, ahorro tiempo. Y logro un mayor acercamiento
a la calidad del material.
With this frotach method I solve the areas of the walls, save time. And I achieve a closer approach to the quality of the material.
Encima de la puerta utilicé el esfumato con un algodón, con lo que se logra una superficie más pulida.

Ahora entro con el método tradicional de dibujar y dar claroscuro según la incidencia de la luz sobre las estructuras, sabiendo que en dibujo las zonas de máxima luz y brillo se reservan con la
Cartulina o el papel. Siempre tratando de reproducir en blanco y negro el material con que está hecho cada objeto. En este caso cemento y madera.
Now I enter with the traditional method of drawing and giving chiaroscuro depending on the incidence of light on the structures, knowing that in drawing the areas of maximum light and brightness are reserved with the
cardboard or paper. Always trying to reproduce in black and white the material with which each object is made. In this case cement and wood.
He reservado para lo último de este proceso la utilización de la clave de valor más baja o la sensación de hueco en la parte de la puerta rota. Y para lograr esa profundidad utilicé el lápiz carboncillo a la mayor presión para lo obtiene ese negro entintado casi al centro del dibujo, con lo que se logra un fuerte punto de tensión de la visual.
I have reserved for the last part of this process the use of the lowest key value or the feeling of hollowness in the part of the broken door. And to achieve that depth I used the charcoal pencil at the highest pressure to get that black inked almost to the center of the drawing, thus achieving a strong point of tension of the visual.
Ahora está clave me pide unos pequeños reajuste de las demás que quedaron afectadas por esa pequeña área de sombra profunda.
Now this key is asking me for a small readjustment of the others that were affected by that small area of deep shadow.
