While I think we do a good job escalating the various layers of horror in Ithaqa over the course of the entire series, we do make a huge leap on the creature and body horror in Issue 6. Rupert is creating my own little twist on the Lovecraftian monster, a Rat-Thing.
Traditionally, a Rat-Thing is a human/human soul that has been fused via dark magic with the bodies and souls of many rats (sometimes via weird interbreeding of rats and fairies).
In Ithaqa, our Rat-Thing is a 'dowel' that Rupert uses to keep his multidimensional tapestry together. He takes the dead corpse of Daniel in our main timeline, and begins to sew him together with other versions of himself/many rats in parallel timelines. An Ithaqa Comic Rat-Thing is a pitiable beast that has to share a single body with too many minds and too many rats.
