Week 372 | My Splinterlands Art Contest Entry | Tyrus Paladium

✨✨Hello! ✨✨

Hope everyone is well. 😁 For this week's entry, I chose Tyrus Paladium. 😁 I am happy to be in the list of winners again for last week's contest. I am also happy to see some of my fellow artists still participating in SPL's contest. I do hope that it will continue and hope that more creative peeps will join!

"A Khymerian prophecy says that a chosen hero will rise from humble beginnings to wield the Silver Shield and the Silver Sword, uniting the world against evil. Whispers in Khymeria say that Tyrus Paladium, the talented summoner who began as a fisherman is that chosen hero."

More of lore here

Sadly, I cannot see more of any lore online about this card. I tried to search on Google, but ended up on some blogs and card stats. Well, I can only assume, hehe.

So, by judging by the clothing, Tyrus Paladium is a spiritual individual, somewhat a monk or a chanter. I assume anyone with a staff has a magic power or energy, haha.

Here is my art process!

Art Process

  • sketch and line art

As always, my go to for references is Pinterest. I looked for a simple portrait pose with a hand. I think this pose was perfect for the card. I used a blue pen for the sketch to differentiate the black ink for the line art later. I used a soft edged pen for both the sketch and line art. I was having a hard time with the hair, so I search for a "buzz cut" hair cut for males. I then practiced the little hair sticking out from the head haha. I then added another layer for the line art. I used a 7 point size for the outer line and then a 5 point size for the inner lines.

  • base color and shading

The ref I chose was a hard shadow, so start first with a lighter base color. I just copied the colors from the original card and then just picked the lighter shades. I used the bucket tool and airbrush for the coloring. I used the pressure of soft to medium, depending on the depth of the subject. I hate it when the process looks like a wack, but let us trust the process, haha! I want to give up half way, but I already invested some time, so I might just go on what I have started, right?

I then applied more of the hard shadow to see some contrast of the light. I applied some glows using the soft pressure of the airbrush. The same goes for the clothing. I chose a deep red color for the background for a nice contrast with the clothing. Next, I used a "screen" mode of a layer to create the outline glow, and then went over it to intensify the glow.

Final Art

Finally, adding the nuances like some bokeh, glowing circles, and a masked texture. I thought that I would stop half way as I said earlier, but I think it turned out decent, hehe.

I had fun making this fan art! 😁

Tadaaa! I hope I imparted some knowledge through my art process! 😊 Feel free to ask anything in the comment section, and I will answer to the best of my skill!! 🥳💕
