I have been trying to do more digital painting on the weekends and using it as an opportunity to keep things relaxed and try some different techniques.
This is a WIP that I am working on in a program called Paintstorm studio. This program has it's faults but I really enjoy the brush engine and the dirty mode that picks up underlying paint colors for a more natural paint mixing experience:
I also made this little study of a daytime firefly. I always see these flying around my patio and they are quite cute. For this one I used infinite painter, I tried not to make any sharp outlines and capture the general shape and color:
Here is the reference image from my camera roll (but flipped):

Seeing this work reminded me a lot of when I was studying graphic design, specifically with a programme called Corel Draw. I had never seen a firefly up close before. Impressive!
I actually didn't k ow they were a type of firefly at first either and I was so surprised!
It looks more like a beetle... nature is amazing.
that bug is cool :) it is cute
They are pretty cute, and they fly kind of clumsy and bump into stuff lol
You have a great talent. Your technique and creativity are beautifully displayed in both digital painting and firefly studies. Best wishes to you.
