What a gripping story of war! Sorry for the late comment but I had to read this story and understand the burden of the protagonist.
I've not witnessed a war before but was present during a crisis in my country where lives were lost and properties destroyed. I had an inkling of war then. It was terrifying and heartbreaking! You captured vividly the horrors of war and the effects on those caught in it with an emotional depth that is moving.
"War can't give life. It can only take it away."
Wisdom! The protagonist is a conflicted character. He must either chose loyalty to his father or friend. The ending is touching. Well done on this story. Thanks for sharing it. !PIMP 🙂

Hello @kemmyb. I lived through a war as a young adult where I knew neighbors whose sons never returned. Many spoke out against the Vietnam War. However, when the time came, they reluctantly served. Unspoken truths were the effects long forgotten that lingered in the hearts and minds of those forced into the conflict.
It took many years to identify the underlying condition of veterans. Now they call it PTSD. For those family and friends who witnessed the effects on their loved ones, the tragedy was heartbreaking.
Just like there are two sides to any conflict, the same is evidence in the individuals who fortunately are able to return home. They live a world of two sides battling for attention.
