The red lagoon and the andean flamingo

Greetings from Bolivia, today I want to share some memories with new art.
Back in 2011 I went with my family to Potosi, Uyuni, to visit the Salt flat of Uyuni, in that tour we went to the Red lagoon, a beautiful place where there are many flamingos, that's near to the frontier with the country of Chile.
I was mesmerized by the beauty of this surreal place, the whole tour was lile steppong into a Dali painting to be honest!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!
The whole tour was surreal, to tell yoi the truth some landscapes of Bolivia are like another planet.
And it feels also like that because the weather is so cold all year long.
I was really happy when I did that tour, that's why I wanted to draw some digital art remembering those beautiful moments once again.

A few weeks ago I started doing animals from Bolivia, in funny cartoon styles, like the maned wolf, the condor and the llama, so I wanted to keep the series going doing more of it and now it's the turn of the Andean flamingo (Phoenicoparrus andinus) a beautiful animal that lives in the red lagoon.

PROCESS

First of all I saw some photographies from this magical place to get a reference since I don't have my own photograph from that era, my photos were lost in an ancient hard drive.

So there were so many options to get references from on the internet because it's actually a very popular place , a "must go" for any person who comes to Bolivia, so I choose this one because it captures the essence and because you can sde the mountain in the back with the rulw of the thirds too, that mountain fits perfect!

This was the hardest part of this project because the mystical magical touch this places has it's because there are so many different tones of many vibrant colors and all of them create a dreamy effect so I put as many details possible to get the effect of that beautiful place, each one gives a different vibe.

This was the result using the oil paint brush with other tools mixed on the Autodesk sketchbook app:

For the andean flamingo I used this beautiful stock photo :

I made the legs really long because I was inspired by Dali's elephants

I made it with anothe layer because the landscape was already finished and I didn't wanted to mess that up.

experimental filters

I always want to experiment with more digital creative filters once I finish the traditional artwork, these are my favorites
