Hello, dear aliens! ;)
This time i think i took too long with this drawing, but i finally managed to finish it.
I don't know what's gotten into me lately with red and black, but i've become a bit addicted to drawings like this. There's a very mystical complexity in this simple mix of colors; it adds a very peculiar dramatic factor, and that's just what this Sketchbook and my improvised creatures need.
Sketching Creatures
I had a bit of a creative block, so to speak, but this time i wasn't going to make a big deal out of it. Just like always, i set up my workspace at night, when i should be sleeping but i don't, because i need to draw at night. I looked on Pinterest to see what would inspire me and saw a photo of a girl who looked like she was screaming, and i was interested in that silhouette. Sometimes i see something and then change my mind. This time i wanted to work on that angle, that dramatic expression, and see what could come of it.
I began to trace the outline with my pencil. Sometimes i think it won't turn out as i hope, but fortunately
the base for this creature turned out very well. Then i highlighted the lines a little with red to make it easier to see, and then i outlined the figure with black ink. This time i already knew the style and color i wanted for this drawing. To continue with the previous red and black drawing, i thought i would stick with that dark, inked theme but keep it “simple,” although to be honest, this creature ended up becoming a little complex.
I don't know if i let myself be absorbed by this creature's oppressive and frustrated expression, or if i was already in that strange situation and wanted to express it in the drawing even though i didn't feel that way myself.
Inking time
For this part, i took my brush-tip drawing pen. I really love this tool, although sometimes i lose patience with it. I began to create the shadows and fill in all the spaces that i intuitively felt were necessary. As you can see, i often just draw guide lines, but then i simply let myself go and let whatever needs to be formed take shape.
Whenever i draw, i accompany my creative nights with concerts videos, art videos... I remember that in one of those videos they talked about the advantage of starting with the shadows before applying colors and so on... Normally, i don't give much importance to how to do things first or second, but coincidentally, while inking this creature, i heard that particular tip and was able to test it out. It's much more comfortable and allows me to see how the details i might add later will look. Although, as has been my habit lately, i was tempted to add other colors. Sometimes i can see the drawing in my mind in other colors and think how cool it would look that way, but i didn't want to ruin anything and had to stick to the original plan.
Once i had my base and creature well inked with all the details in black, i felt that it needed that element that would reflect what it was trying to express, and would also help me balance the empty side. I wasn't sure what to put there, but i continued with the eye pattern on its body. For all this ink work, i used two calibrated pens, one with a brush tip and one with a 0.01 tip for the finer lines.
Red Obsession / White Details
Although this was the plan from the beginning, to continue with black and red drawings, to make it different from the previous one, i didn't want the background to be red but black. But as the creature became a little complex with all those lines and patterns with eyes, i had to think carefully about how to prevent everything from blending into the background and becoming a huge black mass. So i started slowly applying the red with an alcohol marker, the same one i used in the previous one. I had another option that was a little more orange, but in the end i decided on the same one.
I had my doubts about painting everything red, but as i filled in some parts, i ended up filling everything with red without fear. I also added a red stripe outside the creature's outline, which allowed me to continue with my plan to paint the background black. At one point, it seemed too red to me, but at the same time, my eyes could already see the details that were missing. I simply added other lines, highlights, and volume with a white pencil, but only a little and very gently. I left the part of the eyes that come out of its mouth white and only added touches of red. I outlined the entire figure with white acrylic marker.
The End Of this Red Road
There was a moment when, as i colored the face with all that red, it reminded me of those illustrations in medical books, in the anatomy and muscle mass sections... also those cómics illustrations that i really like. Anyway, this is how this red creature turned out, angry, frustrated, desperate... I don't know exactly what's wrong with it, but i loved this red creature, maybe it's family of Hellboy or whatever.
And that's it for this post, i hope you liked it... See you later!♥️🖤
