JARETT RUDAR SIN LUZ
Jarett Rudar is a blind artist who paints by taping sections and or feeling where one color touches the other by the use of tacks. Yes that is right folks. Jarett is blind. One asks themselves, how can a blind man paint. I will describe his process the best I can. First, he uses his mind's eye to imagine what the piece will look like when completed. He remembers how colors blends and has a plan of attack in several stages. It is hard to believe what Jarett does without seeing, he inspires others with disabilities to persevere through obstacles.
"I met Jarett 6 months ago. He had responded to my "Call for Artists" and then called me up and told me that he had been a terrible accident leaving him blind and unable to walk. He can now see shapes slightly and can walk with the use of a cane but is in extreme pain. His story is one of courage and beauty and to never give up." I asked Jarett how he does it and he responded "Very carefully." He has to try a little harder than people who can see.
He is attuned to the darkness relying heavily on the picture in his mind. Some abstract pieces blend fluidly and are bit more free in nature and others with tape seem well conceived.
In the piece "Dark VS Light", Rudar used the tape method with the numbers and symbols placed inside boxes outside the tape. Some blend with the tape section making the work more realistic and raw. This application method leaves an indelible mark on the viewer. This black and white piece is a good example of Rudar's technique stripped down to the bare bones. Black and white paintings might be the most powerful works by artists because they have the most color.
