In all, or almost all cultures, there are stories about unsociable beings, with supernatural strength, a malicious character and a taste, sometimes, for human flesh. I don't know if you guessed it, but I'm referring to Ogres.
For every country and culture, there is an equivalent, although they are called by other names. In Japan, they are called Oni. These Oni enjoy sake, stealing women, and devouring them. In many folklore stories, they also devour children. In some cases, although rare, they served as guides and aid in exchange for food, primarily onigiri, due to the relationship between the names of this dish and the monster in question.
Anthropologists and historians suggest that the Oni were a creation caused by discrimination among the Japanese population. Seeing taller, and perhaps somewhat different, foreigners arriving in their lands, they may have considered them monsters.
More importantly, the Oni are an important part of Japanese culture, so much so that they even have their own popular festivals. For this reason, I was commissioned to create this illustration as part of the sticker collection for International Nikkei Day.
En todas, o casi todas las culturas, se narra sobre seres huraños, de fuerza sobrenatural, carácter malicioso y gusto, en ocasiones, por la carne humana, no se si lo intuiste pero, me refiero a los Ogros.
Para cada país y su cultura hay un equivalente, aunque se les llame por otros nombres, en Japón, se les llama Oni. Estos Oni, gustan del sake, robar mujeres y devorarlas, en muchas de las historias del folclore también devoran niños, en algunos casos, aunque un poco escasos, sirvieron de guía y ayuda a cambio de comida, principalmente onigiri, por la relación entre los nombres de este platillo y el monstruo en cuestión.
Antropólogos e historiadores sugieren la teoría de que los Oni, fueran creación producida por la discriminación de la población japonesa, pues al ver extranjeros, más altos, y quizás algo diferentes, llegar a sus tierras, pudieron haberlos considerado monstruos.
