Hello pretty people of the internet, happy Sunday!
This Japanese fortune kitty is also known by its Japanese name as "maneki-neko", and it expresses wealth and prosperity. The whole idea started because I came across some images of small ceramic sculptures of these kittens and I got inspired, at first I thought to do something very simple but as I progressed I was encouraged to do something more elaborate and beautiful.
Process:
I made this character quite simple, but nice; I scribbled the details that I would put on his body and I also drew the environment. I think this is one of the few drawings that breaks the theme I usually draw, but I liked it a lot and I feel inspired to make illustrations a little more varied.
After outlining the sketch lines, I proceeded to add the base colors and then the details, focusing especially on the gems that adorn the kitten's body, which at first I didn't know how to do, but after seeing some references it was easier to continue with the drawing. I felt a little bit self-conscious when drawing the sphere he holds between his paws, due to the fact that I wanted it to look realistic, but with patience I think I did it.
Something I've been trying to add to my drawings, is to superimpose a layer on top of all of them and put it in multiply mode and lower the opacity, that creates a much more interesting and attractive environment. I removed a little bit of the layer effect in the areas where the gems and the sphere are to make it look shiny, I also did it in some parts of the kitten's body to make it stand out and give it volume.
The background I left simple, I just added a few Japanese style clouds, I really like the shapes they tend to have and I feel they complement the mood very well.
Shortly after I finished this drawing, I felt it was missing something, so I wasn't satisfied to share it with you until I figured out what else I could add or modify.
I finally thought I needed more gems and glitter to adorn the kitten's body, and of course, a tail. I distributed the position of the gems better and now I was happy with it.

Este gatito japonés de la fortuna también es conocido por su nombre en japonés como “maneki-neko”, y expresa riqueza y prosperidad. Toda la idea empezó porque me topé con algunas imágenes de pequeñas esculturas de cerámica de estos gatitos y me inspiré, al principio pensé hacer algo muy simple pero conforme fui avanzando me animé a hacer algo más elaborado y bonito.
Proceso:
Hice este personaje bastante simple, pero bonito; garabateé los detalles que pondría sobre su cuerpo y dibujé también el ambiente. Creo que este es de los pocos dibujos que rompe la temática que suelo dibujar, pero me agradó mucho y me siento inspirada para hacer ilustraciones un poco más variadas.
Después de delinear las líneas de boceto, procedí a añadir los colores base y luego los detalles, enfocándome especialmente en las gemas que adornan el cuerpo del gatito, las cuales en un principio no sabía cómo hacer, pero luego de ver algunas referencias fue más fácil continuar con el dibujo. Sentí un poco de cohibimiento al dibujar la esfera que sostiene entre sus patas, por el hecho que quería que quedara realista, pero con paciencia creo que lo logré.
Algo que he estado probando añadir a mis dibujos, es superponer una capa por encima de todas y colocarla en modo multiplicar y bajar la opacidad, eso crea un ambiente mucho más interesante y atractivo. Eliminé un poco el efecto de la capa en las zonas donde están las gemas y la esfera para que luciera brillante, también lo hice en algunas partes del cuerpo del gatito para que resaltara y le diera volumen.
El fondo lo dejé simple, solo añadí unas cuantas nubes de estilo japonés, me gusta mucho las formas que suelen tener y siento que complementan muy bien el ambiente.
Poco después de haber dado por concluido este dibujo, sentí que le faltaba algo, así que, no me sentí satisfecha para compartirlo con ustedes hasta que descubriera qué más podría añadirle o modificarle.
Finalmente pensé que necesitaba más gemas y brillos que adornaran el cuerpo del gatito, y por supuesto, una cola. Distribuí mejor la posición de las gemas y ahora sí me sentí feliz con él.
