Hello, Alien Art Hive. This here is my first participation in an online art challenge. It feels wonderful to be a part of it. The challenge is to create an artwork with the theme "Rebirth". Rebirth, When i was thinking about the best way to express the idea in an artistic form, I had some ideas, a lot actually, but eventually i selected the one that best communicate the idea.
It's simple and easy to relate art piece. I used drawing (Black and White) to express it, B/W can be used to communicate ideas in a powerful way.
The theme, "Rebirth", Had me think really deep, because there's so much layers to it.It's an idea used to mean reincarnation, ressurection, reappearance, e.t.c. So i had to really think of the best way I can express these ideas in a single artwork. Just as Individuals are different, each artist see's the world a little differently, and i think that's the purpose of this challenge, to see different expressions of a single idea. To me rebirth is all about endings and new beginnings. As one door closes another one opens, that's the rhythm of life. One journey ends and another one begins. That's what"rebirth" is all about. My artwork is based on these two polarities (Endings/Beginnings). I named this piece, "Little Boy, Old man".
In my drawing you will see two human figure, a young boy and an old man. The Litte boy in the drawing mainly represent ideas, not really a person. He serves as a way to visually represent some ideas, such as; The embodiment of hope, our expectations, those fresh goals and ambitions, basically all the things we desire that hasn't come to fruition and the opened door in front of him represents the possibilities that are available for us. The places we can go and things we can do. The door before him can represent the new year "2024". Just as one year ends (2023), another one begins. The boy represents a new hope, a chance to once again give our dreams a go, a renewed and reborn mind that can move forward towards the vision.
On the other hand, we have the old man. The old man is the antitheses of the little boy. He represents all the past experiences, goals that has been achieved and possibilities already experienced. He represents the embodiment of our spent dreams, Old means past, used and weak. As you can see his door his closed, meaning that there's no way to move forward. He's at the end of his Journey. The world is constantly changing, and we have to change with it. Old simply won't do. We need to keep getting refreshed, re-energized and re-born (changing our thoughts and actions for the better).
Key things to notice, the contrast of light and dark is used purposely on the human figure and the door in front of them. The little boy is mostly shaded dark because he's inexperienced and immature. As I said before, the figure used in my art isn't literal, it's metaphoric. As you all know, new ideas, new goals sometimes need to be worked out and fine tuned. The boy hasn't matured yet, hence the journey ahead of him. The old man is relatively brighter because he has experienced the radiance of his goals and achievements. I shaded him lightly to reflect the glow that his positive experiences has given him. But look closer you will notice they are beginning to fade out just as he his.
