Hello Alien Art community! We're back again to engage in a journey of learning and improvement to keep growing. Today, I bring you this transformation of a necromorph, highlighting the quality of beauty and the drastic change in its skin. You'll also notice a detailed tear in its eyes, conveying the message of pain associated with change. This concept is inspired by the game Dead Space, where such transformations and space terror are common. However, I decided to give it a twist by transforming the necromorph into a woman, surrounded by flowers that symbolize her beauty and, at the same time, her transformation. Here is my story behind the design.
¡Hola comunidad de Alien Art! Estamos de vuelta una vez más, enfocados en aprender y perfeccionarnos para seguir creciendo. Hoy les presento esta transformación de un necromorfo, donde resalta la cualidad de belleza y el cambio drástico en su piel. También podrán apreciar una lágrima detallada en sus ojos, que transmite el mensaje de dolor asociado con el cambio. Este concepto lo tomo prestado del juego Dead Space, donde se pueden encontrar estas transformaciones y el terror en el espacio. Sin embargo, decidí adaptarlo transformando al necromorfo en una mujer, acompañada de flores que representan su belleza y, al mismo tiempo, su transformación. A continuación, les presento mi relato sobre el diseño.
PROCESS
First, I started by showing the images that would overlap, and I decided to start from the lower part of the mouth, passing through the entire neck area. In the layers on the right, you can see the copies of the main image to avoid making any mistakes and ensure there is no overlap. I applied an inverted layer mask to proceed with a clearer view of the teeth.
Primero, comencé mostrando las imágenes que se superpondrían y decidí comenzar desde la parte inferior de la boca, pasando por toda la zona del cuello. En las capas de la derecha, se pueden ver las copias de la imagen principal para evitar cometer errores y garantizar que no haya superposición. Apliqué una máscara de capa invertida para proceder con una vista más clara de los dientes.
To highlight and detail, observing the details and delimiting them to your main image is important because otherwise, we would have a solid line with details that wouldn't make sense. And if we want to show a transformation, it's ideal for it to happen gradually, so the veins protruding from the face were carefully detailed, as well as the veins that root into the ear.
Para resaltar y detallar, observar los detalles y delimitarlos en tu imagen principal es importante porque de lo contrario, tendríamos una línea sólida con detalles que no tendrían sentido. Y si queremos mostrar una transformación, es ideal que suceda gradualmente, por lo que las venas que sobresalen del rostro se detallaron cuidadosamente, al igual que las venas que se enraizan en la oreja.
After detailing her face, I applied a layer mask to both the model and the transformation layer. Why? So that they wouldn't overlap each other and I could work peacefully with the layers without constantly correcting shadows and lights. Additionally, I adjusted the realism and tones since some textures were different from others in terms of lighting. In the end, I wanted to add a horn to the crown, but I felt like it overshadowed the transformation too much, so I decided to leave the bottom part as it was.
Después de detallar su rostro, apliqué una máscara de capa tanto a la modelo como a la capa de transformación. ¿Por qué? Para que no se superpusieran y pudiera trabajar tranquilo con las capas sin tener que corregir sombras y luces todo el tiempo. Además, ajusté el realismo y las tonalidades ya que algunas texturas eran diferentes en términos de iluminación. Al final, quería agregar un cuerno a la corona, pero sentí que eclipsaba demasiado la transformación, así que decidí dejar la parte inferior como estaba.
To conclude, I extended her background and centered it, correcting her placement. Then, I created a tear to convey the pain of her transformation. I did this by using a brush painted in white and shaping it into a tear with the finger tool. Next, I removed its fill, applied parallel shadow and bevel, and relief to give the tear the shine it deserves. For the other tear, I simply copied, pasted, and deformed it slightly to make it look similar. This concludes the design, and I'm pleased with the result. I hope you liked this interpretation of the pain of change and please let me know what you think.
Para finalizar, extendí su fondo y la centré, corrigiendo su ubicación. Luego, creé una lágrima para transmitir el dolor de su transformación. Esto lo hice con un pincel pintado de color blanco y, al darle forma de lágrima con la herramienta dedo, procedí a eliminar su relleno y aplicar sombra paralela y biselado para darle el brillo que le corresponde a la lágrima. Para la otra lágrima, simplemente la copié, pegué y la deformé un poco para que parecieran similares. Así concluye el diseño, y estoy satisfecho con el resultado.
