Trying New Ways

From Sketch to Color to AI

Art has always been a passion of mine, but I’m still on a journey of learning and experimenting with different media. This time, I decided to try Prismacolor colored pencils for the first time and bring one of my sketches to life. I watched a couple of YouTube tutorials to understand the technique better, and I must say—it was not as easy as coloring when I was a kid!

The Sketching Process

I started with a simple skull-flower concept, inspired by the NFT Contest on alien hive, I don't feel like my art is professional enough to enter or mint as an NFT, but still wanted to give it a go.

I began with the basic construction lines, setting up the proportions and the overall shape.

At this stage, I refined the skull’s details, shaping the teeth, eye sockets, and petals to achieve a more realistic yet stylized look.

Bringing It to Life with Color

Once I finished the sketch, I moved on to coloring using Prismacolor pencils. Since I had never used them before, I struggled a little with blending at first. After a couple of youtube videos, I found out that working in circles instead of strokes helped blend the colors better.

I started with the lighter shades to build the foundation.

Here, I deepened the shadows, added highlights, and worked on blending the colors to create dimension.

This was the most satisfying part—seeing my vision come to life in full color! I still have a lot to learn about technique and shading.

Lessons Learned & Looking for Tips!

Using Prismacolor pencils for the first time was an exciting learning experience. I realized that patience is key when layering colors and that pressure control makes a huge difference in blending.

Since I’m still learning, I would love to hear any tips from more experienced artists!

Turning My Art into AI Inspiration

I wanted to use my finished drawing as inspiration to generate AI versions of my art. So I sent my drawing in and I chose the two best images produced out of 10. Im not going to lie, I do like the ai versions better. My goal is to one day like my creation more than the ai version.

Tambien es importante que señales que programa de IA usaste: aqui te dejo las reglas:

Tambien puedes hacer el proceso alrrevez, creas tu concepto en IA y luego lo recreas a dibujo.

La practica hace al maestro, saludos
