Just had a lengthy conversation over lunch today with a colleague who is a professor in the Architecture department, and also an artist.
We were discussing NFTs, and talked about the fact that NFTs enable artists to create art that encapsulates the 'creative process' of producing an artful creation.
This is what you've just done here, showing us the process. Taking this a step further, you can package each of the above images into a single NFT, along with the description, along with an animated GIF that steps through each image, perhaps with some sort of fade transition between images (and perhaps with more images, actually showing the individual brush strokes, erasures, etc.). You could also narrate the process, if you wanted to.
I just left a comment to a post contemplating the future by @taskmaster4450 where I said:
The future belongs to the individual -- a time is coming when every individual will be sovereign over the fruits of his (or her) labor, being paid peer-to-peer for the specific value he (or she) creates for each customer.
Blockchain represents one of the crucial tools that will pave the way to that future.
NFTs are making that future a reality today for artists willing to embrace that technology.
That's a great suggestion, now I just need to learn how to gif it up. The question then becomes given I have NFT the original still image, does a GIF look different enough not to be a copy?
Yes, I had the thought yesterday or today that you should probably explicitly stipulate with each NFT that you reserve the right to incorporate a given image into a future collection.
For example, if and when you become world famous, you might want to sell a single collection of all your digital works as a single NFT, for millions of dollars, sort of like Beeple just did.
The thing about derivative NFTs though, is that they will likely only increase the value of the original, because the original pre-dates the derivative.
If you're concerned about it, though, you could always offer the new version to existing holders of the original version in exchange for them returning or burning the original -- in other words, give them the choice of whether they would rather keep the original or exchange it for the derivative.
Hey @trostparadox took your suggestion and made a nft of the making of a nft. Also thanked you in it and tagged you. If you would prefer I am happy to remove your mention, I just like creating where credit is due.
Also sent you one as a thank you for the inspiration, love the ideas keep them coming.
Awesome on all counts!
I love the way you've taken various hivers' suggestions to heart, and created a revenue stream for yourself in the process.
I look forward to the day when you get paid crazy amounts of money for simply doing what you love to do. And I am glad to play a small part in that.
(And thanks for the artwork you've gifted to me! Wasn't necessary but is hugely appreciated!)
Well I figure listen to your audience! Hopefully one day my passion can be a moan scource of income but until then I'll just have fun exploring.
Glad you liked it, I figure as the scource of inspiration for the idea its only fair to have a copy of the final product 😀
