¡Patas sobre garras! Del lápiz a lo digital. Estilo poster.
Hello, friends. This is my first time posting here, I'm a Bachelor in Arts but I was dedicated to gallery work, museography, curation, and other areas and not creating art, even though that was what made me study the career. But the call to the artist from @leofinance made me take back the pencils and start sketching.
Hola amigos. Es la primera vez que posteo aquí, soy Licenciada en Artes pero estaba dedicada al trabajo en galerías, museografía, curaduría y otras áreas y no a crear arte, aunque eso fue lo que me hizo estudiar la carrera. Pero el llamado al artista de @leofinance me hizo retomar los lápices y empezar a bocetar.
The prompt was "Slay The Dragon" with a Lion winning over the Dragon. I had a few ideas, but my favorite needed a knowledge of perspective I don't have, so here is my second favorite. Starting with a few circles and then dumping lines where I see them fit. I never was able to measure and actually prepare a good foundation, I like to draft the idea with light lines and then do modifications and darken the ones I like more.
El tema era "Matar al dragón", con un león que vence al dragón. Tenía algunas ideas, pero mi favorita necesitaba un conocimiento de la perspectiva que no tengo, así que aquí está mi segunda favorita. Empecé con unos círculos y luego fui colocando líneas donde creí que encajaban. Nunca pude medir y preparar una buena base, me gusta esbozar la idea con líneas claras y luego hacer modificaciones y oscurecer las que más me gustan.

After placing the foundation of the drawing, I start adding details and darkening the lines, trying to keep them rich, I don't like it when the lines are too smooth. When all the lines were dark, and details like the nose and wrinkles too, I cleaned the paper with a sticky tack; then proceeded to take a photo and maximized contrast, highlights, and shadows, to get the whiter background I could and the more solid lines possible before going to the pc.
Después de colocar la base del dibujo, comienzo a añadir detalles y oscurecer las líneas, tratando de mantenerlas ricas, no me gusta cuando las líneas son demasiado suaves. Cuando todas las líneas estuvieron oscuras, y los detalles como la nariz y las arrugas también, limpié el papel con un limpiatipo; luego procedí a tomar una foto y maximicé el contraste, las luces y las sombras, para obtener el fondo más blanco que pude y las líneas más sólidas posibles antes de pasar a la pc.
Once on the pc, using Photoshop, I finished cleaning the background and leaving all the lines alone. Then I moved to InkScape to trace a bitmap and turn the png image of the lines into vectors. You can notice that by doing most of the job myself, the lines stayed very similar to the ones I draw. I used the brightness cutoff and played with the values, that way I didn't lose my line. Then cleaned again any excess and my line art was ready. Now doing the color is easier since I just have to treat it like a coloring book. I first threw some colors just to save the spots, kinda see which colors will work better.
Una vez en el pc, con Photoshop, terminé de limpiar el fondo y de dejar todas las líneas solas. Luego pasé a InkScape para trazar un mapa de bits y convertir la imagen png de las líneas en vectores. Se nota que al hacer yo la mayor parte del trabajo, las líneas quedaron muy parecidas a las que dibujo. Usé el corte de brillo y jugué con los valores, así no perdí mi línea. Luego limpié de nuevo cualquier exceso y mi line art estaba listo. Ahora hacer el color es mas facil ya que solo tengo que tratarlo como un libro de colorear. Primero tiré algunos colores sólo para apartar el lugar, un poco para ver qué colores funcionarán mejor.
In the beginning, I wanted to do more blue for the dragon, but it looked even more cartoonish that I wanted it, so I decided to do a green scale instead. The shadows are done using red over the original green in the area. For the lion, I just saw a lion and picked the colors from there. At this point, I started adding details such as shadows, highlights, blood, claws, and small details here and there.
Al principio, quería usar más azul para el dragón, pero parecía aún más caricaturesco de lo que yo quería, así que decidí hacer una escala verde en su lugar. Las sombras están hechas con rojo sobre el verde original de la zona. Para el león, simplemente vi un león y elegí los colores a partir de ahí. En este punto, empecé a añadir detalles como sombras, luces, sangre, garras y pequeños detalles aquí y allá.
I showed a preview in the Discord server of Leo, and for that, I wrote my user everywhere, and I low-key loved it, so I decided that the background will be done using text, and that helped me to give it personality and the poster style. I also thought they should be on something, not in the air, so I added the floor. Finally added the fire, and some highlights to the background.
Mostré una vista previa en el servidor Discord de Leo, y para ello, escribí mi usuario en todas partes, y me encantó por lo bajo, así que decidí que el fondo se haría usando texto, y eso me ayudó a darle personalidad y el estilo de póster. También pensé que debían estar sobre algo, no en el aire, así que añadí el suelo. Finalmente añadí el fuego, y algunos toques de luz al fondo.
Finally? Joking. While doing a screenshot I liked the white around so I decided to make it part of the design, and I fell in love with this vibe. This was my journey drawing again. Thanks to my sister @jes.seth that gave me some advice. I'm the one who graduated in art but she's the one that has been drawing the most XD. I did the illustration and then she said it was like a poster, and my lightbulb turned on.
¿Por fin? Es broma. Mientras hacía una captura de pantalla me gustó el blanco alrededor así que decidí hacerlo parte del diseño, y me enamoré de esta onda. Este fue mi viaje dibujando de nuevo. Gracias a mi hermana @jes.seth que me dio algunos consejos. Yo soy la que se graduó en arte pero ella es la que más ha estado dibujando XD. Hice la ilustración y luego ella dijo que era como un póster, y se me encendió la bombilla.
