Hello on a Monday morning!
How was your weekend? Hopefully better than mine. I had a rough start to it on Friday night when I pulled my iPad out of my bag, opened the cover, and—voilà—the screen was shattered. And I don’t mean a crack here and there; it looked like a spiderweb explosion. My heart just sank.
There was the immediate confusion, trying to figure out how it could have happened while it was safely tucked inside my bag. There were two impact points—one at the top and another at the bottom right corner. I still have no idea what caused them. Mind you, the iPad had both a screen protector and a full-body cover. So that was my Friday night—heartbroken and confused.
I tried to comfort myself by thinking I’d just get a replacement. Well, much of that optimism was lost when I checked the prices. When I first bought my iPad, the exchange rate was ₦600 to a dollar; now it’s ₦1,500. So yes, we’re definitely on track for a replacement—if the track is straight, zigzagging or curved, that’s another topic. Complain all we want on inflation, I think most of us are still good within the local economy until we have to deal with imports and then you realise how low your purchasing power is. It’s the stuff of dark comedy.
To lift my spirits, I turned to audio dramas and music—something to fill the quiet moments when I reach for the tablet out of habit. And of course, there’s always art. Art has a way of soothing the mind, offering calm when everything else feels cracked and uncertain. So here’s this piece I’m hoping to mint soon.
