GROWN UP STUFF

Hello on a Wednesday late evening!

How is your week going? I was home all day so I think I had a bit of a rest. I am currently listening to The Leviathan Chronicles, an audio drama series, which is honestly pretty decent if you can look past a few things — like the heavy-handed feminism(I can never understand why the most popular way to write a strong female character is to dumb the male characters around her and assume no one is going to pick up on her bac decisions), the “turn off your brain” kind of science, and a fair bit of anti-religion (well, more like anti-Christianity, because solstice rituals and mysticism somehow get a free pass).

Spoiler alert! The entire premise is kind of wild: one character decides to build a society of intellectuals free from religion — just pure science and reasoning — and that’s pitched as some kind of utopia. Like, okay… good luck with that, babe! 😂

I guess I’m just rooting against them because the rest of us non-science folks are apparently the bad apples. Zero appreciation for art and humanities. Anyway, the “wise one” who brings the desirables together eventually gets corrupted — something about too much power (shocking, right?). Turns out power has the same effect regardless of IQ. I haven’t heard her full side yet, but there’s a rebellion in the so-called utopia because, newsflash, nobody likes a dictator, no matter how “enlightened” they claim to be.

Here’s some art you won’t find in Evelyn’s utopia

I drew this today and added a small reflection inspired by an interaction I had with a senior lawyer who felt the need to complain about my dressing — and then wanted me to be grateful he didn’t embarrass me in court for that.

For the record, I was properly dressed. I would never wear anything that wasn’t approved (and trust me, my law school was strict about dress codes and I stick with those rules). Respectfully, some folks still have this lingering need to perform “corporate” harder than the ‘colonial masters’ do — and honestly? I don’t care.

Have a wonderful rest of the week folks and hopefully the busybodies stay off your path unless they’re for you. Bye!!!
