My castle is well-situated in an ideal location...any neighbours are allies, if they were not I'd have to obliterate or annexe them, make them my vassals.

I have the occasional border skirmish, sometimes pitched battles, but my army is trained and well-equipped and easily capable of dealing with a few peasants with pitchforks and clubs. Once the battle ends, I make a few examples of key instigators, raise taxes and ride off back to my castle happy with the days' work.
